Default DIY How to on Relocating your Cruise Control.

HEY GUYS I HAVE GREAT NEWS! I FIGURED OUT HOW TO RELOCATE THE CRUISE CONTROL FOR PEOPLE WITH AFTER MARKET STEERING WHEELS.

I took my steering wheel off today and opted for a quick release. I found the wires that connect to my cruise under the dash and hooked it up. Everything works great. I will be posting pics of this and where to splice in. I will also be posting pics of the relocation. I just need to figure out where I am going to put the dang thing.

More to follow.

Just a heads up if you have an 06 or earlier then I can at the very least take you down to the harness but after that your on your own, I dont know what wires you need to splice into.

For 03-05 here you go, I will revise this when I actually take pictures in case I missed something.
Step 1. Disconnect the battery.
Step 2. Remove the airbag, (remember you need an anti theft proof torx bit to do this, I went to the dealer and they just unbolted them for me.
Step 3. Disconnect the airbag, Yellow and Orange Connectors, you will need some sort of a small screw driver to do this.
Step 4. Remove steering wheel 16mm Socket
Step 5. Remove lower shroud of the steering column
Step 6-9 edited out not necessary
Step 10. There are two harnesses, one yellow, one gray, The gray one is the one your looking for. There are 3 wires that are leading into this harness, 1 green black, this is your horn, The other two are for your cruise control.
Step 11. Take the Cruise controls out of your steering wheel.
Step 12. There is a black and red wire for your cruise control, splice the two wires into the two wires that are in that harness. (at the moment I cant remember which wire goes to which but I will get back to you when I take pics.
Step 13. Figure out where you want your controls and make the rest happen how you want.

Here is what I did. I picked to the right of the steering column, Right next to the vents on the panel.
Step 14. Make the holes for the controls, I was impatient and I just traced it
with a fat marker, I wouldn't recommend you do this. Remove the silver plate from the cruise control, cut to your desired size and then trace it with a fine point marker to get the correct measurements so as not to make the holes too big. USE A DREMMEL I wish I did.
Step 15. Find a way to mount the controls to the rear, I used epoxy and 4 washers, I epoxied in each washer and used zip ties to hold everything in. Sort of half ARSED but I couldn't think of anything else, it works.
Step 16. Dress everything up and wala its good to go.

Where are you relocating it to? I actually like it on the steering wheel.

Right next to the right knee below the dash. There are some little vents, not sure what for but its to the right of that.

I have an after market steering wheel so it being on there is out.

I took pics of what I did afterwards but I couldnt give you pics of the whole process since I dont have my steering wheel and the wiring harnesses ect. When I do it for one of my friends I will take pics from start to finish and post them.

no worries, I wish I had taken pics from the begining but it was an unexpected move, I sorta happed on to it and it was finished before I knew it. If you have any questions just ask and I will try to answer them. I will post up what I did, i know that the cuts are not great, I used a box knife, i dont have a dremel that would of been much better.

I wish i had a dremel though so it would of looked really clean, I used the vinal cover of one of my school folders and cut it to shape to clean up the lines.

Hey bro, what year is your car? It is really easy if your willing to dis assemble your steering wheel. Its honestly as simple as cutting or splicing in the red and black wire and putting the switch where ever you want.
