Default Top Speed Pro-1 Coilovers Review

Hey everyone. I was one of the lucky ones to pick these up coilovers before they ran out of stock. I've been running them for a little over a month. I wanted to ride on these for a while until I posted a review.

They were packaged nicely and looked like this:

Install was pretty straight forward (I didn't take any pictures during installation). I did however run into a small problem on one of the rear coilover. The hole where the bolt goes in was too small for the OEM bolt. On one side the OEM bolt fit perfectly but the other side wasn't the same so I had to make the hole bigger using a drill. The front coilovers didn't have any problems installing.

I had a couple friends over while installing these so they pressured me into slamming it (their Z's are pretty low as well). Here's how it looked when they were installed:

^^ those pictures are when the coilovers were at it's lowest setting all around (for some reason I thought it'd be lower)

I did raise up the front about half an inch a couple days after that and this is what it looks like currently:

The rears are about 3 full turns from the lowest setting.

Another thing that I noticed is that it's supposed to be 18 ways adjustable but I counted 20 clicks
The fronts are set to full stiff (they ride comfortable for street driving) and the rears are I think 5 clicks less than full stiff (I need to adjust that and make it full stiff as well).

The ride quality is pretty good for how low I am. It's close to stock but when you are on bad roads, you can kind of tell you're running on coilovers. I have ran BC Racing coilovers on my 02 Maxima before this and ride quality is comparable but it's two different cars. Another guy who was over when we installing these coilovers is running D2's on his Z and he said that mine rides better (for what that's worth). When I was at the lowest setting, they did bottom out every once in a while but the height I'm at now, it's only when there's a big dip in the road. These are a little noisy (sqeaky) from the rear but it's only when going through bad roads. I'm going to double check the rear soon and make sure everything is still tight.

Overall, I am satisfied with these coilovers especially for the price. I actually bought Stance GR+ coilovers but they never shipped so I canceled the order and bought these months later (everything happens for a reason I guess). They ride good for my daily driving needs and go low enough for me. I'm still on stock camber arms but will be buying some soon for the rears at least. I did get an alignment and they fixed my toe but camber is still up there. -3 and -4 degrees in the rear.

And the seller had excellent communication when I was considering buying these coilovers. A++ for that!

Here's some recent shots of the car (don't hate on how the stock wheels are sunken in.. I'm in the market for some different wheels)

Hope this review helps those who were questioning the quality of these coilovers. I'm glad I jumped on these before they ran out of stock

Nice thanks for the write up. Whats up with the drilling though? I dont have a drill and dont want to have to either....
Other besides that, they look perfect for the Average DD. Also, going off the stockl heigth, how low can they drop? 2-3"

I'm not sure if the drilling is for all sets made. It could be that I just got the bad set.. but it does raise an eyebrow. I actually had to buy a drill to because I didn't have one available but I needed one around the house anyway so I'm not complaining. I'd say they drop 2.5" front and 3" back but that's just my estimation. They're low enough for people to stance out their cars IMO.

They're OEM in the rear. I thought they would go lower too but when I first installed them, they were at the lowest setting.

well according to the top speed these are the same as mdu coilovers and mdu coilovers slam the car. this guy had mdu's

https://my350z.com/forum/texas-marke...them-gone.html

and his car appears lower than yours . he basically said you can lay your frame on ground lol. thats why i dont see why this is the lowest they go. i might have to go with stance.

^ true and read that review.

Should have went true style coilover, from everywhere i read, its betterfor many reasons.

But all and all, I hope when i get mine (truestyle) they will be no drilling. I only need to Drop my car roughly 1.5 front and 2ish in the rear. Slightly more probably but good to know they can slam just incase,

Maybe he added preload to the springs to compress them some more and lower the car further

I didn't go true style in the rear because I don't have rear toe arms.. I'm considering to go true style later but the ride quality of OEM style isn't bad so I'll see..

Yeah I was also confused cuz I read his review on it before purchasing mine and thought mine would go as low as his if I wanted.. But maybe they're a little different?

My friend actually adjusted the height of the coilovers (he's rocking BC's) and I'm pretty sure adjustment is done the same way. So unless it's different, mine was at the lowest setting when I first installed it. Either way, it can go low enough for me so I'm not complaining.

well if topspeed makes mdu's i dont see why ops are maxed out. point is no one actually has topspeed coilovers yet, just the mdu's

OP do you have pics of coils installed?

You can use your stock bucket in true style, At least thats what top-speed said in the FS thread.....Does it look pretty....no, but supposeably its fine cause thats the stock toe adjustment

these are generic china coilovers. they come in different colors but they are all the same lol. Well at least topspeed comes with 1 year warranty.

a warranty is a warranty. Period...Are they made in china? ya maybe, all you have to do is PM them and ask top speed.
