Default Steering wheel inserts question

What do you guys do when these things get scratched up? How do I get a new set or a nice set of covers. I tried to clean mine up and only managed to ruin them even further. Also, How do they come off? I unscrewed the them from the back but they still wont come off. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have seen people post that these just pop off, that's not my experience. I've read that people who try to pop them off end up breaking them.

I removed and repainted mine flat black cuz I didn't like the silver.

The way I got them off was to take off the steering wheel. There is a screw in the back that can be taken off while the steering wheel is on BUT there is also another screw holding them in place from behind the rear steering wheel cover. Here's the pic of it. How do you take off the steering wheel? It's much easier than you think - search the thread.

I know of 3 options:

1. Buy new OEM plates.
2. Carbon Fiber covers.
3. Paint your old ones.

The wheel comes off easily. The airbag should not be a concern.

I was concerned about the airbag but its very easy. I think this mainly happens with models that have controls in the steering wheel. Mine looked like new and I have an 05 but base model, so no controls.

Um...Yeah. I tried to just pop them off and I broke the thing. I will be visiting the dealer and will report back with the $ amount for my little fit. Removing the steering wheel should be no big deal but where do you get the tamper proof torx head to do it?

Sears for the torx bits. Check courtesynissan.com for the part + shipping if the dealer seems high.

Here's a thread on how to remove the steering wheel and the tools you will need. The thread itself is about doing something with the audio controls, you only need to go so far with it to do the steering wheel removal.

For this you won't need all the tools that are listed. I did it with everything listed above the torque wrench. Also, I did not replace the old tamper proof screws. I used the old ones.
