Z1 Motorsports UHP Hatch Struts Review
Last Wednesday i placed an order for Z1's UHP struts from here...
https://my350z.com/forum/body-exteri...ch-struts.html
I ordered them with the cheapest shipping and had them by Friday afternoon. Installation is obviously a 2 person job due to having to hold the hatch while trying unbolt the old and bolt on the new struts. The hardest part about the installation was getting the old OEM struts off. In the end we ended up having to to unbolt the two bolts on the main part of the car and just break off the ball joint on the hatch side. Once you do that you can get some leverage and take out the bolt. You will understand this better when you do yours.
Installation of Z1's struts was very straightforward and actually only took about 10 minutes to install them both. Just as a heads up, the hatch has to be ALL the way up or you wont be able to mount them into place. So either be 6'6", know somebody who is, or make sure ur on the bolting down side of things and not the holding up of the hatch end lol
Performance wise there really is no way to describe how much better these things really are. After we installed one strut you could already tell a huge difference and it would almost hold it up by itself. Once the second was installed my mind was blown! These out perform OEM ten-fold and for anybody with a big spoiler, UHP struts from Z1 Motorsports is the way to go!
My total added weight between the hog of a Nismo spoiler, my 22" monitor and all the mounting brackets is right at 25 pounds and these struts never even slowed down! Here is a short video comparing the OEM and Z1 Struts!!

Nice video
Sorry to see I'm not the only having trouble getting the stockers out. I talked to the guys at Z1 and they had some ideas on how to get the stock strut off. Haven't had a chance to try any of those yet.
This kinda seems like a stupid question, but anything specific about your method of "breaking off the ball joint"? Did the socket on the strut pop off the ball? Or did the ball stay in the socket and the bolt/ball thingamajig broke? After unbolting the two bolts on the main body of the car, did you just push down on the strut until it broke off? Did you remove the molding on the hatch or anything?
Mine's only half done right now

I got the UHP ones...the extra money can count towards your monthly gym membership since it will take some strength to close the hatch but i would def go with the UHP ones
