Default Nismo Cat Back + UR HFC = FAIL

Well after 1 year almost to the day with Nismo and UR Cats the Y pipe finally gave way:

FAIL - enough said. Anyways I replaced it with a JIC Y-pipe and well see how long this one lasts.

I will be receiving my Berk HFCs tomorrow! I have had my Nismo exhaust just sitting in my room for over a week now. Installation comes Friday or Saturday! I will have support brackets too, so they should refrain from cracking.

The Nismo is definitely not a friendly exhaust for HFC's. Two different brands of HFC's have cracked on me within 3k miles of bolting up to the Nismo.

the nismo sucks, I dont understand why anyone would buy it. It seems like the exact same thing as stock? When I was in the market for exhaust it was at the bottom of my list. Am I missing something about it??

looks classy, sounds good, nismo part, perfect if ran on a car with stock cats. Also some have warranties through the dealership with their cars.

I just posted this question on another thread but since this thread is similar I'll post it here to.

I'm just wondering about the nismo cracking problem and instead of a flex y-pipe wouldn't something like the Ingalls "Stiffy" Engine Torque Damper work better by causing alot less engine flex?

No Nexx I have seen the threads and the countless complaints. I have been here long enough to know that. Just because your post count exceeds mine does not mean that I know nothing.

I do know I am taking a risk with this setup, but aahh what the hell. All I can do now is hope for the best.

I think its the Nismo y pipe that is the cause for all the HFCs cracking isn't it?

I have my Nismo exhaust and Berk cats sitting in my room. I need to find out what exactly is the problem that causes the cats to crack.

It could be the Y-pipe. If I keep the stock y-pipe, do you suppose that will help keep the cats from cracking?

that definitely wasn't the problem for me. my flex pipes cracked so i bought and put on a stock ypipe, then one week later, my test pipes cracked. All i can say is that it's well worth it to have testpipes/HFC with the nismo though. The sound is so amazing. I get countless of compliments. Just make sure you have spare oem cats so you can ship in your test pipe/HFC for warranty work when they do crack.

Yeah i'm pretty convinced it's the nismo y pipe that is causing the issues - just doesn't seem to flex enough. I was also aware of this when I got HFC's I'm just surprised it was the y-pipe that cracked and not the HFC's.

Anyways Nismo sounds like stock but a bit deeper when your getting on it - and with HFC's it really wakes up. But it's still not obnoxiously loud or raspy like others - I was looking for a mild but better stock sound and I beleive this setup does it.

I just noticed something. My Nismo y-pipe has a some sort of a support tab right in the same place where the OP's y-pipe cracked. Interesting. I believe I have the latest edition of the Nismo exhaust.
