I was wondering what the differences in dyno's are. I know that the Dynopack attaches to the wheel hubs and quotes figures that are 10-15% higher than normal.

What about Dynojet's and Mustang Dyno's

Just dyno on a dynojet sae corrected. Lower than std but most accurate. A mustang dyno uses load so it generally dynos lower than dynojet numbers.

 

Here's my understanding of the different dyno's:

Dynopack - Measures hp at the wheels, but bolts onto the hubs, not taking into effect the weight and rotational mass of the rims/tires. Typically gives you the highest results.

Dynojet - Measures hp at the wheels, with the rims/tires still on. Numbers tend to be lower than the Dynopack because of the added weight of the rims/tires.

Mustang Dyno - Measures hp at he wheels, with the rims/tires still on. However these dyno's work, they usually dyno the lowest of all types of dynos. Why? I have no idea to be honest.

Tips for dynoing:

- Always get your numbers SAE corrected for atmospheric conditions.
- Dyno in 5th for manuals, 4th for auto's.

 

The Mustang dyno gave me a 230hp!!

And what exactly were you expecting? You have to realize that the same car taken to six different dynos will give you six different numbers with a variance of as much as 30hp between the extremes. There is some article I read linked from a post here some months back. There is no such thing as an absolute number that stock Zs (or any other Z for that matter) should dyno at. We can talk AVERAGES all day long, but that is going to be +/- 10/15hp.

Just for grins I took a look at a dyno thread and pulled out all the stock dyno numbers (they didnt state whether mustang, dynojet or SAE corrected) and this is what I found:
