Thumbs up Kinetix plenum shoot out / Stock car / plus more

Im sure some of you really want to know what i found out today.

Here is what we did. Test car was a 2003 6spd touring model.
The dyno was a dynojet. All pulls were done in 4th gear. And the ECU was reset in between each mod.

2 pulls each, these are the best results.

The tests were:

Dyno 1 = STOCK
Dyno 2 = Ported Lower Plenum
Dyno 3 = Ported Lower Plenum + JWT intake
Dyno 4 = Ported Lower Plenum + JWT intake + V5 Kinetix Plenum
Dyno 5 = Ported Lower Plenum + JWT intake + V5 Kinetix Plenum + Ported Throttle Body
Dyno 6 = Kinetix SSV + JWT intake + Ported Throttle Body

Dyno 1 STOCK we managed to pull 238HP/224TQ not bad base line
Dyno 2 241HP/228TQ
Dyno 3 244HP/226TQ
Dyno 4 243HP/229TQ
Dyno 5 244HP/229TQ Ported Throttle body did not do much
Dyno 6 235HP/221TQ As you see the SSV lost HP over the V5 and alot of TQ

Here are the dyno graphs

Excellent! Im sure people will b!tch and comlain and look for an excuse, but Id trust your write up over a shops anyday. One thing if you could, can you post the other runs for the set-ups as well, that way we can average the 2 runs...nice job! SSV = JUNK

Edit-BTW the #'s are Standard corrected not SAE but thats ok...

Thanks for the important information. Kinetix plenum mods have been losing credibility since the Sport Z magazine tests.
The V5 Kinetix Plenum lost 1 horsepower.
And the SSV lost another 2.

So I suppose that both are for sale.

Thanks Alberto

Yeah, im sure someone will B!tch, but oh well it is what it is.

I dont have the print out for the other pulls, just what i posted. And i wanted SAE but i did not notice until we were on the third mod and by then i wanted them all to match.

The SSV did make 4 HP over stock but lost 3 TQ. And when compared to the V5 it lost 2 HP and 8 TQ. I could not believe how much TQ it lost.

Tested my ported TB and it did not do much but did alittle maybe 1HP and 1TQ Need to install a larger MAF housing and i think it will do better.

Glad we finally got the tests done

I hope everyone appriciates what we did lastnight. We spent $250 on the dyno and 2 hours of our time.

I would not take anything away from the V5 for a NA car. But the SSV is better suited for a FI car in my opinion.

I have another dyno that i forgot to post lastnight. It shows the STOCK pull and the best pull from the V5 and SSV on the same dyno graph. Will post that up once i get off work today.

It will have to be custom, and you will need engine management of some sort. By making the housing larger your MAF sensor and ECU wont know what to do with the extra air passing through the housing.

I thought the ssv was intended for turbo applications anyway. There are many factors that can attribute to your findings. I'm pretty sure with hp numbers exceeding 500+, you would see a significant increase in power over others. Eventhough this was a nice comparison, it does not offer anything that I needed to know.

i am in orlando, and will be getting my car tuned soon by central florida turbo, they are very reputiable. If some one in orlando or near by has a v5 , i have an ssv that i am going to be putting on after the first pull. I have a single turbo kit, and i plan on doing a base run with the reflash, then a retune on the skunk 5/8 spacer , then switching to my ssv and doing a final tune some where around 400hp, but if some one would like to bring a v5 , and help me swap it , ill do a run or 2 on it. I ll be more than happy to post the dyno sheets and results, ill pay for all the dyno time as well.. i think it is great when poeple step up and and put these things to there test.

Great write up. It's about time someone independently tested the SSV. I'm not too suprised by the results. Thanks for your contribution to the VQ community.

I had JWT Intake and Tanabe Exhaust prior to my Kinetix V5 install.

I believe prior numbers were around 237whp, after numbers around 242whp, so it made power for me? I believe davidv was on hand that day to see the pull and dyno.

Erm... I might actually have the V4, not sure if it makes a difference.
