Default get rid of SC belt squeal?

Is it possible to totally eliminate the belt squeal from a SC belt? Under normal running temp the squeal goes away, but listening to it on startup sucks. If I get the belt tightened, will it go away all together?

Don't know which belt you are using, but you can get the "squeal" to go away without raising your rpm to 1000! If you are using the Goodyear Gator, you are probably going to tighten the TP at least 2-3 times. You might want to get a "Gator" belt that is 1/2" - 1" shorter.

I ended up using a 3" circular blade and cut a hole in the platic skid plate directly under the TP bolt. Convenient? Yes! Don't have to remove the plastic shield to adjust the belt.

Loosen the nut on the front of the TP. Now from under you car, tighten the TP bolt to where the belt will twist less than 45 degrees. If you can see the bottom of the belt while twisting, it is tooooo loose! NOW, once adjusted DON'T FORGET to retighten the nut on the front of the TP.

I have the same problem. I just had the belts replaced since they were cracked. I still have a quick squeak at startup so I am also looking for a solution. No Belt dressing!!!!

I know mine needs to be tightened at the very least because the squeal take a long time to go away. I wan't a permanant solution that makes it so the belt NEVER squeals. Just a perfect sounding engine from the get go...

Pipe dream? I dunno.

Don't think you will find a permanant solution! "Pipe dream?" Yes! There are different belt choices (i.e. Goodyear, NAPA, Gates, Dayco) but they are all going to stretch some. I have tried them all and went back to the Goodyear "Gator". Tightened 2-3 times in the first couple of week. Now have better than 5000 with no squeal.

how hard is it to tighten it on your own? I had it professionally installed, and never touched it.

Tightening the serp belt isnt a big deal . If it squeels , its to loose and your not going to make full boost . Loosen one nut , tighten another .
No offence but , its in your best intrest to get in there and find out how your kit works and how to tighten a belt , clean the filter , and make other adjustments . OR have a deep pocket if you dont want to .
There are a bunch of threads on how to tighten the serp belt and how to do other adjustments on the Vortech SC kit . Have fun and learn as much as you can about FI

cool, no offense taken. I'm a computer geek by trade and it's a wierd thought to have something kick-azz and not know how it works. I build system from scratch and to think about people having a kick-azz gamming computer and not know how to build em is a strange thought. Same applies to the performance of the car. I will definitly look up the threads and see if I can get my hands dirty. Just didn't know if there are special tools needed and all that jazz.

Again, thanks for the reply.

If the belt is a new or "newer one" and good quality and you have made sure it is tight (but not too tight as to bind the bearings, you can get rid of the squeal with a touch of baby powder. Any fine, talc based, powder works well to pull any moisture from the belts and help eliminate your squeal. Give that a try, its a cheap fix, but make sure you check the previously stated issues before you start sprinkling magic pixie dust in your engine bay.

It worked for me.

cool, I've give that a try. The belt is pretty new and should be in good condition. It's been stretched since the original install so I'll tighten it, then from the baby powder trick.

Thanks!

The baby powder will stop it from squeeling , but not stop it from slipping . That belt needs to be TIGHT . Bearings in the pulleys may not last as long , but its the price you have to pay to play

If the issue is slippage, tightening will do the trick. If the belt is tight, baby powder will remove the moisture and the squealing. Use powder as a last resort to dry your belts out and use it minimally.

Boog, you forgot to tell him about the scraped to hell forarms

Seriously, you can adjust the belt from up above and reaching down, it just looks like you had a fight with a mountain lion after.
