Exclamation Pleased to announce: Built Z Motors

Fellow my350z members:

We are pleased to announce the launching of our new company, Built Z Motors (website under construction www.builtZmotors.com ) I have been part of this 350z community for some time and I have always toyed with the idea of starting a side project of building vq35 motors. Many of you have seen my trials and tribulations of being one of the first to have a forged motor built, then destroyed, then rebuilt and pushed to the limits.

I want to thank Sharif, at Forged Internals for all of his help over the past few years, and his assistance in getting this project rolling. A majority of our parts will be coming directly from Forged Internals, we will provide the machine work and assembly expertise.

We have assembled a great team to deliver high quality motors, built in a timely fashion, at an affordable price. We are prepared to be able to produce several forged motors each month, and are geared towards making this a profitable endeavor through our volume of customers, enabling us to keep our prices extremely competitive.

We will plan to have 2 motors on the shelf, built, ready to go, at all times (in case of emergency- ready to ship out that same day) and we can give a price quote for a custom build, geared towards your specific needs.

In a few weeks, the website will be closer to completion. We plan to have a complete photo-documentary of every step of building a motor; from the machine work, to the balancing, cleaning, to the assembly process, checking clearances, and making this whole motor come alive.

This is company is dedicated to one thing only, building 350z motors! We are currently taking orders; feel free to PM me with any questions.

Some details/options about our motors:
-All blocks will be machined with torque plates
-Short block builds will be available, but as you see our pricing on longblocks, you will most likely want to go this route.
-Longblocks will come timed, with front and rear timing cover installed, swap out a few sensors from your existing motor and this built motor is ready to drop in!
-Shipping motors via a freight company is much less expensive than many of you think, typical shipping costs range between $120-$200 each way.
-We offer a core exchange program
-We have the option to build using a Darton sleeved setup/ mild to extensive headwork, valve jobs.

We are excited to launch this endeavor and look forward to serving you,

Todd Pickman, founder Built Z Motors

Todd,

I found the only price that I think will beat yours and that is free.

That sir is the only reason that I did not elicit your services. After the phone call that I had with you, I was more than impressed and know that I will be definitely doing business with you in the future.

I have spoken to a lot of different people about my build and you and one other person were more than willing to talk to me until I understood what was being said clearly. The rest were willing but understandably busy, I think?

I think that with your pricing, we will start to see more competitive pricing across the board, and FI may become a little bit easier for more members out there.

Please keep us all posted on the website as I look forward to checking it out!

Bill

the great thing about the vq35..it doesnt care if it makes a home in a 350z or a g35

i second the sticky notion

Todd,

Congratulations on your new venture, wish you all the best.

If I may suggest that you list the qualifications of those how are going to do all the work and maybe a few pictures of the place and so on. It might give the potential customer a better overview.

Regards,

Az

Thanks for the encouragement!
I will have a virtual tour of the entire process on our site and a brief history of the machine shop, their methods, and SPEEDLAB, the shop that will assembling the motors...

*The motors will all be assembled and blueprinted by SPEEDLAB, one of the first performance shops in the world to work with rebuilding the vq35 motor for a forced induction application. Some of the knowledge that is readily available today was obtained from SPEEDLAB, through their meticulous work with this particular motor. At the time of their frist motor builts, they communicated closely with Charles at CJMotorsports and Sharif from ForgedInternals. These guys all put their heads together to get over some of the original "bumps" in the road. They have built several of these motors in the past and the main engine builder has been working with the assembly of motors for over 15 years.

My current motor was assembled by John from SPEEDLAB (Chops)...I have never seen a guy exercise such precision in what he does. I watched him build my motor, and I knew I was getting one of the best assembled motors possible! I run 16.5 psi on my motor, drive her very hard...

The machine work will be done by a local shop, the same shop that has performed the machine work in the past for these vq35's. Like I said, expect much more to come soon, as in the next couple of weeks, we will have the best documented report of the ENTIRE process of building one of these monster motors.

I will be upgrading my personal setup for testing purposes, but currently I am making tons of power out of a built bottom end (Pauter rods, Arias Exteme Duty Pistons-first in the country to have this in my motor )

TODD

Sounds like a great thing for the Z community.

Let me get things straight though. You do all the parts ordering, order taking and, customer service and speed labs does the actual builds? If this is true...it's honestly the best setup in the aftermarket since you won't have the techs that are actually building motors answering dumb questions on the phone all day, and they won't have to deal with customer issues that could delay other builds.

Good stuff!

that is correct I also have hunted down 4 motors for the original builds (then we will offer the ever famous core exchange program), I am doing all of the dissassembly, and some of the prep work for reassembly, cleaning the timing covers (gasket--ugh!) keeping things nice and organized, delivering the parts to the machine shop, then delivering the fully prepped, machined, cleaned parts for assembly to SPEEDLAB...

I will be carefully orchestrating the entire process... so that we get the motors built in a timely fashion, and we can offer a specific build to the specific requests and power goals.

Todd, where the hell were you 8 months ago bro?! Haha

Thanks to yourself, Sharif, and Speedlab for making it WAY easier to get a quality built motor.

we could definately do it..higher CR pistons..lots of head work...but if you are doing all that work, throw on some turbos and make a ton of power
