I just recently put new tires on the front and back of my 06 350. My back tires are wider than the front. They look great but unfortunately when I go through a turn, the traction control turns on. I know that I'm not sliding and there is no need for it to come on.

Does anyone know how to fix this without turning off the traction control? I have called around and no one seems to know for sure. Not even the tire place that I purchased them from. I did read somewhere that I might need to have the same width in the front and back.

The tires that I put on are 225/45/18 YR and 265/35/18 YR Toyo T1R. Also, these are on the stock 06 wheels.

Any ideas?

 

Do you have VDC?

 

I would be willing to bet that the tire sizes are incorrect proportionally front to rear...

 

Your rear tires are too short (overall diameter is about 1.4” too small). You need to replace the rear tires.

It's a shame you didn't investigate before spending $$$ on new tires.

 

Why should I need to investigate when I am relying on the expertise of the tire store? It's not that shameful, there is a warranty. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

 

If you are on stock tires, stick to stock sizes. The stock sizes are perfectly fine. You can avoid this problem too..

 

Just cause they work their doesnt mean they know SH$T, even my local dealer has a Z with an aftermarker wheel package with the wrong sized tires on the showroom.

 

It's just surprising to think that with all the computer stuff that they would be able to fit me with the right tires.

 

I would go back to the shop and ask them to provide a correctly sized tire. The tire they sold to you won’t work at all since it is way too short (as to overall diameter).

You need a rear tire with an overall diameter of 26.7”. If you are on stock OEM wheels, you’re best choice is probably 245/45-18”.

One thing to consider for future buys is purchasing from one of our great Vendors on my350z.com. These Vendors know the Z car and always provide the best solutions/setups/products for members.

+1 , and 275/40 is the proper up sized tire, but you need at least a 9 inch wheel to use it.

 

And get some 245's for the front too, 225 is too narrow.

A tire store SHOULD have recommended the OEM sizes, nothing more, nothing less. There's no way they would have known about the TCS/VDC issue. We're not blaming you, you trusted the opinion of someone without knowing the extent of the effect that it could have had on the car. Without having spent some time on this forum, you likely didn't have the chance to stumble across this subject.

As the other members have suggested, I'd go back to the tire dealer and have them swap out either the fronts or rears to get you back to OEM diameters. That will solve your TCS/VDC slip light problems as well as keep your odometer/speedometer accurate.

 

Its a simple but important question.

 

The biggest you can go is 265/40 in the rear on stock wheels. The front can get 245/40's. A few people run 245/40 front and 255/40 rears with good results.

 

I believe that I have the 06 enthusiast so I don't believe that I do. Only TCS.
