TPMS Replacements Not Working All the Time
2006 350ZR Grand Touring
Had to get new tires quickly when found scalloped edges inside rear driver so bad that it was down to threads. Ended up buying Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 - not my first choice but COSTCO had them and I NEEDED TIRES ASAP!
This was also my first exposure to the need to replace the TPMS sensors. COSTCO told me they had aftermarket replacements for $40 and the tech said he was sure he could initialize them on any Nissan. They only had one in stock and put it on the rear passenger that day. It worked fine.
Later, they got three more in for me and installed them. They all worked and I drove out relieved that I wasn't going to need some dealer reset or something.
Then, a few days later, things went south. In short, one of the rears always works. The other works most of the time. The two fronts frequently don't register at all. If I drive more than a half hour with the fronts not registering, I get the low pressure icon on the dash.
The one factor I've noted is that, the two fronts don't seem to work when the outside temperature is lower than 60 F. When over 60, they all work fine.
So, thoughts, ideas, comments?
Is there some trick to the installation or the reprogramming that might result in intermittent functionality like this?
