Default Snow

From Experience For Those Of You That Drive Your 350 In The Snow, How Is It? I Remembr Last Year I Took Mine Out Only Once In The Snow Down My Street And Back And It Wasnt Pretty, But I Did Have Pretty Bad Tires. But What About Puting Snow Tires On Stock Rims Would That Help At All For Snow. I Live In The Chicago Land Area In Nw Indiana We Got Snow From Time To Time Sometimes We Get A Lot But Some Winters We Get Hardly Any... Just Asking For Some Opinions So I Can Make Up My Mind Before The Snow Comes Because I Cant Risk Not Having A Car For Winter Sinec I Work 2 Jobs..thanks

it's no problem with snow tires provided you know how to drive a rwd car.
i've been doing it for years.
i just bought some blizzaks and 17" steel wheels a month ago for this winter.
i really want to try studding them. i've heard nothing but good things about that.
here in NJ it's legal to have studs starting nov15

I was wondering the same thing. Im in missouri and we don't get a lot of snow, but a little here and there. I'm more worried about ripping off the front end of the car hitting chunks of snow/ice. The front end is so freaking low to the ground its practically a plow, lol.

Check out the huge number of posts from last winter about "I wrecked my Z". Many of them involve driving in inclement weather. The fact is that the Z is not a good snow car. Period.

Dedicated snow tires will make the biggest difference, but IMHO you need FOUR of them the even get through the white stuff. Also, do you want to get all the chemicals and slime on your Z during the winter? Get a FWD beater and save the Z for the good weather!

dont listen to these people.
rwd is fine in the snow with snow tires and if you know how to drive rwd.
practice for a few hours in the snow in a parking lot. get comfortable. it's easy.
all those threads about people wrecking their Zs in the winter were from people who just dont know how to drive rwd. putting sandbags in the rear is worthless. that's nonsense.
if you want to get a winter beater though, do it. i would even make that rwd with good snow tires and studs.
i go out in the snow for fun in rwd cars. with snow tires i used to keep up with my friend's subaru no problem. (he had all seasons) i love it. look forward to it all year long!

yes a search would have served a lot better than repeating the same questions over and over

I don't think he is. He's one of those annoying types who type in all caps and the forum changes everything to lower-case - thus the effect of capped first letters. So annoying.

you have caps lock on.

and yes, 4 good snow tires should get you by pretty well.

The Z does fine in the snow, it just doesnt have the ground clearance for the heavy stuff

I drive a rear wheel drive dodge ram as a dd and for the winter I always put sandbags in the bed for traction. Weight in the back of rear wheel drive vehicle does work. some people here must not drive in areas that get alot of snow. In Northeast Ohio we get blasted with snow and anyone thinking of driving a sports car in the snow must not care about wrecking the car or themselves.

Truck is different than a car. Trucks are light in the back with no load. Sand bags in the Z are worthless. It's already balanced the way it is. Not only will the amount you could fit in there not do anything it is also dangerous in an accident. Get some Michelin X-Ice or Hakkapellita snows or whatever is one of the best this year and if you are old enough to remember how to drive a RWD car you will be fine! If you get stuck, you will probably note that many other cars are having trouble too and you should have waited for the plows to go by and gone into work later if you can. I've had no trouble with up to 5 or 6" and live in NW IN and work in SW MI. Good luck and enjoy your car all year long
