To those that think I am a pinko communist,
Not entirely..I feel I should have all the right and you none..my dream is less communistic and more of a dictatorship.

Seriously though. I wanted to nip this in the bud purely out of fear that it could have gotten ugly. But I was wrong, and I am glad I was. I am all for lively debate, just not vapid arguments over subjective points.

I agree with you 100%. One of the best things about my350z.com is that discussions rarely degrade to "my dad can beat up your dad" type stuff that you see all too frequently on other sites.
Lively debate is great. It's what makes America great, but I'm here to make friends, not enemies.

Every car has a soul, and it's how we manifest that soul that makes a car a unique work of art. It's nice to see everyone show respect for each other's choice in car. It just goes to show how cool Z owners are.

To quote one of my favorite movies...

"We're gonna be like three Fonzies. And what's Fonzie like?"
"C'mon Yolanda, what's Fonzie like?"
"He's cool?"
"Correctimundo. And that's what we're gonna be. We're gonna be cool."

Me, too. I ordered Performance 1/16 based on my "analytical" thinking. Then decided a month later that I would regret not having leather in this car since I've never had leather seats before. Also agree with exsilio's "path of least resistance" argument regarding the stereo.

Interestingly, I'm maybe the only one who went the reverse path.

When I first ordered, I went Touring 6MT, but then after thinking it over for a while, downgraded to Performance.

I was just too fed up with my current "high-end" stock stereo, and also saw the Altima leather and was unimpressed. We'll see how it works out, it's all a guessing game since I still haven't even seen the car in person...

Default Best value

I definitely agree that the Performance model is the way to go for those like me who can barely afford this car, or are just budget-aware. I was debating just getting the base model for a while, but decided it was worth the extra bucks to get the bigger rims and VDC and the Xenon lights. If money was no object I'd get the Track, I think that's the ultimate Z package. But with the Perf model I can always upgrade later, and still afford my Z now.

I live in Texas and don't want leather seats or heated anything! Would be nice to have that subwoofer, but I think I'll find one myself that will do the trick. Anyway, overall I think the Performance model gives you the most bang fer your buck.

Thumbs up Best Value?

Forget about Performance vs Touring model, personally, I think the Base model has the best value for the money. Since this is a sport car, I define value as most performance for your hard earned money. Wait a minute, may be the Civic Si or Sentra Spec V have a better value.

I went through the decision making process that most folks here went through, I ended up with Touring 6MT. The reason, I want those features and I can afford it. That should be more than good enough reasons for me. I only have to justify it to myself, I earned the money.

You can have the same debate about a Toyota or Lexus vs Mercedes, a Corvette vs Ferrari, and on and on. The best thing about all of this is we have choices, not whose choice is better.

Cool Performance vs. Touring

Hey, on a more serious note: there may be a good reason not to get the Touring model IF you are either much shorter than average, or much taller than average. Reason is that the power seats have only a 4-way adjustment: fore and aft, and tilt. But on the Base, Enthusiast, Performance and Track models, you get a 6-way adjustable manual seat, which adds height (up and down) adjustment. If you're on the short side (let's say some 5'2" lady), then you can crank up the height. On the other hand, if you're very tall (like me), you can crank it down all the way---plus, you don't have the power seat mechanism to prevent you from getting the seats low. Just a thought.........flame suit on!

gpsailor,

Sorry to disappoint you, there is no seat height adjustment on any model, just tilt for thigh support. I played with it yesterday on a Touring AT model. Same tilt adjustment on the Touring, it is manual, not power.

Unhappy seat height adj.

Bummer.....guess I should learn not to listen to the salesman at my friendly neighborhood Nissan dealership, eh? But thanks a lot for the clarification--at least I won't spend the first few minutes wondering where my "height adjustment" is........

Are you sure? I thought people that have seen the car did say that the manual seat (which is not in the Touring model BTW) did have height adjustment?

gpsailor,

Your salesman didn't give you the full story. The "height" he refered to is only for the front of the seat, not front and back, which requires 2 additional adjustments, aka 8-way adjustable.

robbyn,

Yes, positive. Touring model has 4-way power adjustable driver's seat (forward/backward, seat back tilt forward/backward) and 2-way manual (front of seat up/down via a **** on the left side toward the front of the driver seat). I played with the Touring model seat twice, once at Dallas auto show and yesterday in Austin. I want the full (and real) seat height adjustment mysef, but that need 8-way adjustable.

All other models have 6-way adjustable. See Scaf's picture here which shows the seat & **** for adjustment for the Track model => https://my350z.com/news/may24/scafremon-30.htm

Touring model has the **** in the exact position => https://my350z.com/photos/350z/350z-012.jpg

My current Maxima has 8-way manual adjustable driver seat. There are 2 ***** for height, one for the front, the other one for the back of the seat.
