Unhappy Perma Plate

Does anyone know what this perma plate is? I went to a Nissan dealership today and they were charging $695 for this on the Z. Is this standard on the 350Z or is it a dealer base option? Please help.

Thanks,
Jeff

I've talked to the sales manager, and according to him this perma plate is the number etched to the glass of the car. There is a serial number etched to the glass as well as an 800 number.

I'm not sure what this does and why they would add this. I was just wondering if anyone know if this is a standard on all Z. Apparently this seems like it is independent dealer base.

I guess it is another bogus add-on that the dealer is trying to sell and make some money off. Also once this installed it can't be remove since it's etched on the glass. (windshield, rear windshield, side windows, and etc...)

Anyone else know what this is so far it a clear coat, a theft deterent etched on the cars glass?????

Perma Plate is a clear coat.
I got the glass etching put on my windows for free from my dealer. I was told that it would be put on all Z's.

Clear coat is already on the car, and I doubt very seriously, the dealer takes new cars into the body shop, sands 'em, and sprays more on.

Looking at that web site, It appears to be a wax/polymer paint sealant.

Read "Dealer profit item". You don't need, and can do better yourself with something like Zaino or others.

Glass etching is actually not a bad idea. By etching the glass a potential thief will have to replace all the glass to get rid of it... not cheap...

The glass is etched at the dealer. Got mine done for "free".

Thanks for the clarification so perma-plate is a clear coat. If the dealer have them already done on the car any ideas how much this is worth? I don't think this justify the $695 they are charging for wax and labor. I could have spent the money on Zaino and do it myself for less.

Default Which Dealership??

Patric,

Could you PM me the dealership that was charging you this?

The dealer cost is $5-10 and detailer cost is $30-$40 so the dealership is making about 1400% profit for this supposedly sealant.

Here is the post on another thread.

Thanks everybody I now have more ammunition I hope...

You can buy as good of stuff and do it yourself, there, too.

A can of scotchguard is, what, $4? A good leather conditioner is not that much, either.
