Default No Luck with the Z

So tonight, after days of negociating with the dealer and have personally checked out the car VERY carefully, I arrived at the dealer to sign the paper, and to drive my baby home. I took the last look at the car, and found 2 SCRATCHES. One is about 12-14 inches long with the diameter equivalent to the diameter of the mechanical pencil.(the size of about 10x of human hair) on the right fender, and a shorter one right on the passenger's door.
The dealer say they will fix it ONLY AFTER i close the deal. I other hand, want them to fix it first, and if the fix turns out just like the original paint, then I will buy the car. Well the bottom line is dealer won't fix it unless I close the deal first, so I walked home. So what do you think?? should I trust them by closing the deal first? or does it sound like they're trying to screw me up?? please help.

Its a touch situation, but remember that you are the one that has the check. Go to a dealer that has the vehicle you want and purchase it from them. I wouldn't trust anyone when dealing with a vehicle purchase.

I wouldn't make a large purchase like buying a car from a dealership that treates their cars so carelessly in the first place. It should be good customer service for you or for another client that will buy that Z to have the scratch fixed.

It sounds like they won't fix the scratch to your liking and tell you tough luck in the end.

How can you trust a dealership that attempts to sell scratched or damaged new cars, especially without taking care of you - the customer first-hand?

IMO, you made a very hard and wise decision!

Make some kind of contract that he must fix those specific scratches to your satisfaction within 2 weeks after the purchase is made...

Something like that...

Then you might be okay.

Just go somewhere else.
Dont drive a car off the lot that isnt perfect in your eyes.
You are paying the cash and you must make sure the car is what you want.
Thats all there is to it.
Dont waste another minute with that guy.
Go somewhere else and get a flawless car.
You made the right choice.

I guess you could have then write the paint repair in the contract with a specific requirment that it meet your standards of approval. Now if you are uncomfortable with this Dealer then you should find someone that makes you feel good about your purchase.

good decision, if the dealer is this hard with even selling you a car, image how hard it would be if bring you cars in for problems, which you will. Go to another dealer.

I had the same issue. I had to struggle to find my car and the dealer trucked it over for me from Louisiana. Before I signed I found some scratches on the hood and paint missing from the front bumper where they obviously lightly hit something in the front when parking. I forced them to re paint the hood and bumper and while the job wasn't as good as factory, it was pretty damn good and I figure an extra coat could help against chipping. I kind of got screwed, but got lucky in that the paint job was good. If I had been able to find another car anywhere in the South East I would have passed on that car. I even had one ordered at one point.

Are you aware that now the value of your car is LESS than what it was BEFORE they painted it?

Anything that is METAL repainted on a car DECREASES the value. I know this because someone recently hit the front of mine. They had to repaint the hood, replace the bumper and left front quarter panel.

I was fighting the ins company on loss of value..

Anyway. Just an FYI and this apply's to any vehicle. I also know this b/c i am friends with a manager at a nissan dealership and they use a paint meter to see the thinkness of the paint wen assesing the value of cars being traded in.

You make it sound like the car is a house and you get it appraised every 6 months to check its value. Its a car man. So you think a car with a beautifully painted hood and bumper is worth less than a car with paint scraped off the front bumper and a couple of scratches. If I had waited 4 months and gotten a new one and they scraped it on the way off the truck, should I have waited another 4 months to keep the value. I don't really care about value cause I sure as hell know my car looks great and that is all I care about.

Wouldn't it be something if another dealer puts a search out for the car you want, and picks the same car with the scratches from the previous dealer? Hmmmm, Check out the next car carefully. ZRA

First car I looked at seriously had a scrape on the bumper. They offered to give me another $500 off but I walked instead. It would have been @1k under invoice.

Pay attention here:

NEVER finish the paper work without the car being the way you want to own it! Period!

You may be lucky and get them to fix whatever was wrong, but you are far more likely to want to drive the car through their front window before you get to that point.

Incidentally, this is not a Nissan-only problem.

Good move walking away!!
