Anyone interested in going?? Be nice to see a few other Z's there this time. Racetrack driving is only as dangerous as you make it. If you stay within your limits, you will not have any problems. I know they can no longer guarantee an instructor, but for any other Z drivers here that want to go, I have instructed for these guys and I will instruct for you. I would be interested in trying it, but I am concerned about wear on the car. Is it really hard on the tires and brakes and other components? My car is a daily driver that I put lots of miles on going to and from work, and I don't want to kill it. Would you recommend racing like this for a car that you want to put many miles on, or mostly for a weekend fun car?

 

I would *so* be up for that, but I just finished driving my *** off this weekend and I don't think I'm up for another big driving event for a few weeks. Some friends and I did a drive from San Jose, up Mt. Hamilton (to Lick observatory), and down the other side to Livermore. It's about 70 miles or so of great, twisty roads. A truly great technical drive to test your abilities, but it sure can wear you out. (and your tires!)

Well, that, and the fact that I'm about as broke as broke can be as I just spent all my money on my girlfriend's birthday this week.

But seriously, $125 for a day of track time really seems like a great price. I've done the Thunderhill schools up north in Willows a couple times and they were $175... I thought *that* was a good deal!

 

More of you Z owners should be jumping all over this opportunity. However, I'm not sure I feel as safe being on a track with inexperienced track drivers without an instructor.

Yes, driving hard at the track does wear down your car, but the Z is a sports car. If you own one, you should drive it like a sports car. It's kinda like having an SUV... it's designed to be taken off road, but 95% of SUVs never leave the pavement.

So take it to the track! You'll learn more about your car and how to drive much better. Don't go in with an ego, go in with an open mind... trust me, you'll leave with a big chit-eating grin...

 

I had about 5000 track miles on my MR2 Spyder and it held up just fine. If the Z can't hold up at least as good, there is something wrong. Tires and brakes are what you really have to worry about at the track.

 

Crap, I would be all over this if it wasn't for the date. My group's latest software release is going live the next day. There is no way I oculd get the day before a release date off.

For what it's worth, many SUVs now days (especially those big, fancy models) are no longer designed for serious off-road usage. Maybe some snow or mud or getting over a ditch, but nothing big. I just can't see an Escalade or Expedition crawling its way up an old fire trail.

But other than that I totally agree with you. It would be a waste to own a sports car as fine as the 350 and not go to the track at least once. It's a very worthwhile experience. (And perhaps a bit humbling if it's your first time.)
