Question Do you get upset while washing your Z?

Don't get me wrong, I love this car. I still love it as much as the day that I got it.
I just hate to wash it. I'm ALWAYS finding new chips and scratches. My front bumper looks like it's been sand blasted. It just seems that no matter how far away I park from other cars, just driving it seems to get the most abuse. Although once I take it for a drying run, I usually get over my dissapointment.

Thanks for listening, I just had to vent.

Ian

I used to be that way, but one day you'll realise it's inevitable, and it's stupid to be bothered by it when you really can't help it.

I know exactly what you mean, but seeing my car in the sun after a wash kinda makes me feel a little better.

I get that good happy feeling after I wax her.

You can allways re-paing the front for not allot of $$ ,.. then clear bra it ... might help.

.... but.. atleast you bought the car to drive it, and enjoy it. .. when you do that.. its all part of the risks....

Some day someone far smarter than me will come up with a 3m like clear jacket for lack of better term that will cover the entire car.
It will be put on from the factory after the paint and clearcoat.
It will be on there and you can wash without touching the paint, again much like a clearbra.
Anyways after said amount of time you just go to the factory, they remove it and install a new one.
Then you wont ever have your paint screwed by washing and nothing will touch the paint ever.
The only thing i cant see is how car owners would be able to keep the cars paint from fadin.
Also, To answer your question I get mad as mad can get when i see a error on my car.

It is like carol shelby said, and I am sure has been said down through the ages:

Are you a DRIVER or a POLISHER? The car is a tool, it will get dings and someday meet a crusher. By then you will be in love with some other car and not even care.

Tune your car, drive your car. Don't obsess over minor visual flaws. Your happiness is your choice.

BTW, get a clearbra. One year driving on construction = zero dings in the front. Replaced the windshield twice. Bugs rinse off, a little paint thinner every three months keeps it shiny and new looking.

Even if it was sandblasted clean I would still love the car for what it does and what I have done with it. I am SUPER OBSESSIVE over performance and wrenchwork, these are the only things you need to worry about. Drive.

Had my Z washed this week after waiting 4 weeks ( rain pedicted every4th day) - and I stood back and admired it! Drive it every day to work, etc - has a few blemishes (dings, etc) - but not noticable to the normal eye! I had a 1990 new 300ZX - only drove it weekends and vacations. Traded it in 1995 with just 25000 miles (original tires) - looked beautiful! - but this car is to be enjoyed every day - isnt that what they are for??

Default Most of my damage is self-inflicted

Let's see...(1) spilled battery acid on R front fender, (2) parked too close to garage door and scraped the front when it closed, (3) hooked my dirt bike footpeg on the L front fender and "hooked" it out a bit...

My '03 would still look great if I could just control myself...

But I still enjoy washing/polishing the Fairlady. My wife says it's therapy for me.

Just do a real slow and careful touch up once a quarter.
Thats what my plan is.

LOL Dr. Greg...

I put a clear bra on mine with only 400 miles on it and no chips. A day later I nailed it myself with a shopping cart while hungover. Total freak accident but the bra saved me a scratch. No damage to the bra or the car.

It's going to happen some day though. Wife has had her new Higlander for 3 months and it has 2 nasty scratches on it already that I know weren't her fault.
