Default Tanny Swap - 5AT into a 6MT - Is this ok, possible?

I got an '04 5AT for $27K. Personally, it kills me to drive an auto since I've always done MT, but my girlfriend's mom wanted to get rid of it and I just took over the payments. White, loaded, less than 1,000 miles, not a bad price I suppose.

Found a 6MT for sale... is it possible to do a swap?

Why wouldn't it be possible to "swap"? Is it possible to "swap" and not loose money? Perhaps.... why don't you give it a shot and check it out..

Keep in mind that NO one in Boston is in the market for a sports car in the dead of winter.. though. What are the specs on the 6MT you wanna take?

How'd ya take over the payments? Is it in her name still or in yours now?

I think he may mean that he found a MT for sale (without the rest of the car). Is that what you meant here? You want to swap a MT into your currently 5AT Z?

I am not certain, but I would not think this would be a simple thing to do, if possible at all.

you're gonna loose time/money...with the actual install and maybe the resale. should have bought a MT in the first place.
but the answer to your question is that anything is possible. just be ready for ppl asking you "why didnt you get a MT in the first place?"

Trade it in for a 6mt.

Like others have stated, yes it is possible, but much cheaper to just trade it in for a manual. A swap would involve not only the tranny being replaces but you would need to purchase all the interior pieces for the auto as well as figure out how to reprogramme the electronics which are much different for the auto.

To Clarify --

Yes, I found just a 6MT tranny for sale. I suppose you're right in that I'm better off trading it in for a new one. This Z is my first real car so I've sort of grown attached to it....

Thanks guys

A car is a car is a car. You'll fall in love with the second Z too.

Don't do a tranny swap. Do a Z swap for a 6MT.

The eventually resale/trade in value of that car would probably be next to nothing since the Vin wouldn't really match the car anymore.
