You would probably get $3000 - $5000 more if you sell it yourself...

Only reason to trade in, is if you dont like dealing with strangers, or if you know something is wrong with the car, a dealer is not going to hunt you down when they find out the tranny is ready to fall out whre a physco who buys your car might

Other reason is because you can't wait and want the new car now... If you can wait put the car in paper for $16,000 and wait a few weeks, if it does not sell you can still trade it in.

Also keep in mind its easier dealing with a dealership when you got all the cash vs a trade in. With the trade in, they will play the game where they give you more for your trade in, but you end up paying more for the new car and vice versa, they drop the price of the new car and give you less for your trade in...

My advice, sell it yourself, unless you know something is jacked up on the car..

Which model Maxima is it? What kind of shape would you say its in? Has it been hit? Good tires? Let me know these things and I'll tell you what we would put on it at our dealership....trade is good if you make a good deal with the dealer because you save on the taxes. You only pay tax on the difference which good save you 700-1000 dollars. On our last 04Z we would sale for cost minus holdback and trade for clean black book. That's a deal just to move the last one.

ok AVG black book is what most dealers use. A GXE AVG book is 15200, but and I say but, tires around 500, new bumper cover 300-400 I think you should be ok arounds 13500-14000. Don't worry about the tran and don't tell the dealer anything about it. We only drive them around the block unless the "nice customer" tells us any problems then we pick it apart, lol. Now that price is the wholesale price not retail. And only a good guess without seeing the car.

Aren't you the same guy who was trying to prematurely destroy his tranny?

I agree. I got 15500 for my 02 Max GLE with 27k on it. I was at the dealership for 7 hours. But they went from offering me 13200 and asking 31000 for the Z to the other amount.
