Default dealer charging me to locate car!! wtf

Hey guys..

I had a thread floating around here about buying a Redline 05 350z Enthusiast auto and how I'm getting it for 30,100 otd

well...

I went to the dealer... and he was like..we only have 2 05 enthusiast auto in stock, PP white and Daytona blue

I told him specifically that I wanted a redline...now hes telling me he has to charge me an extra 500 just to take the time to locate and deliver the car to his dealership

is this a bogus charge? i know when my sis got her RSX, they didn't have it in silver so the dealer traded another dealership free of charge.

what do I do?!

It is a bogus charge. Go somewhere else and look for the car.

It may cost $500 to have the car shipped there but there's no reason YOU HAVE to pay it.

My dealer was happy to locate the exact model and setup that I wanted. No extra charge....

They didnt even try to push anything that they had on the lot...

I'd walk away.

Go to the Nissan site and build the car you want. Then start doing a search by ZIP code. I did mine this way. Finally found one that matched 100% in Phoenix, AZ. Worked out everything with the dealer by e-mail and phone.

He knew I was serious. No $$$ sent to hold it. Took $1000 off MSRP. Took off what it would cost to ship to Albuquerque, NM. Refunded my airfare and picked me up at the airport.

There are GOOD dealers out there.

go to another dealer, they may ask you for a deposit of $500, but as mentioned before they should be reeturned. Thats what the dealer where i bought my car did, and i got the car that i wanted in the color that i wanted without paying 1 cent more.

Let NIssan Consumer Division know about this and he will have trouble getting any Z's on his lot period. Dealers that have a ot of complaints and poor service records have problems getting selection of cars from Nissan.

One of the local dealerships in my area tried to pull this exact same crap on me. I asked him why I should pay him $500, and he told me they weren't going to take the time to find a car and truck it in if I wasn't going to buy it. My reply, quite simply, was WTF...just because the found one that met my specifications didn't obligate them to truck it in! At that point, I walked out. The dealership I eventually got the car from was more than happy to locate the Z I wanted at no cost. So, like everyone else here, I suggest u keep searching until u find a dealership that will do that for you at no cost.

I can see them asking for a down payment so that they don't go through the hassle, and then you just walk away. But it DEFINITELY shouldn't be an additional charge. If it's the one you want (nice choice in colour!) for sure, then I'd offer to put down money if I were you... but it is towards the price of the car, not an additional fee. If they even flinch, walk away my friend.

its not really a bogus charge, it may be a bit extreme, but he is selling you a car cheap. Some say they didn't have to pay it, but I bet they didn't buy the car as cheap either. Sometimes when you haggle yourself into your "good deal", you are going to see that when the cost/profit margin is shortened, the dealer can't give you the service you demand at the price you demand. It costs money for a dealer to go and trade for a car, depending on the distance, he may have to have a flatbed do the trade so the miles don't get to high on the outgoing car. If you don't want to pay the fee don't, but have fun shopping around for the car. If you shop too hard you might find the car and a price higher than the dealer that is going to get it for you is willing to go.

I had Tustin Nissan try to charge me some post delivery inspecition charge of $400. I let them know it was hard for me to understand why I had to pay for something that unless they did it, they wouldnt be able to sell the car. When he tried to make me pay that I said that instead of paying the extra $400 I want another $500 off cuz I just figured on the same logic, I didnt feel like paying for the destination charge either.
Needless to say I didnt buy the car there...actually got a lot nicer deal at Cerritos Nissan.

It's not a bogus charge for delivery but the dealer should be the one to foot the bill.

Take a look at ANY new car sticker and you'll see the destination charge added in (usually around $500). It's a real fee but asking you to cover it seems pretty lame to me.
