Default Michelin Sport Pilot A/S Update

I have noticed that many people that visit this forum have fitted Michelins to their Zs. I was wondering if you would share your likes or dislikes of the sport pilot. I am in the process of locating a set for my 17inch stock wheels. Thanks

Thumbs up A/S pilots

Great tire all yr round. Great grip in the snow. I put over 12k miles on it and still no feathering or noise. Since I have another car I will be getting summer tires. A little pricey but worth it.

I had the 17" A/S Sports on my Z for the last 2 years, great tire with loads of grip but the rears were worn out in 9k miles. I replaced the rears but the second set didn't last long either. Now I'm riding on Michelin XGT Z4 A/S.

To compare the two: overall performance of the Sports is a little better (stiffer sidewalls, softer compound) but the Z4 is a better touring tire, it's quieter and looks much better. They were $200 less per set than the Sports and they are wearing less than the Sports, too.

The long-term verdict isn't in yet, but so far the Z4s are very good street tires. If price is no object and you want ultimate performance and you don't mind the noise and replacing them frequently you'll like the Sports, otherwise try the Z4s.

I'd like to try the PS2 but they don't make them in the right sizes.

Agreed! The PS2 is not available in 18" sizes to fit my Nismo wheels.
(Now that we have jacked this thread! )
Back on topic, the original design of the 350Z intended to mount Michelin Pilot Sports (NOT A/S though). A late design change resulted in substitution of our 'beloved' RE040s. This per the Nissan suspension designer on the 350.

China

Never knew that. I guess that explains why the "G" comes with the Pilot Sport on the 18s, and may partially explain why there has been no feathering problem on the "G". Food for thought.

To further hi-jack this thread, have any of you "Z" guys with Pilot Sports had any problems with them. I'm running Dunlop SP9000s on my Nismos on my "G" with zero problems.

Thought I would share an interesting fact that I found on the Nissan price/facts sheet for the 05 models. It stated under the 17 inch entry Bridgestone summer tires but under the 18 inch it only stated summer tires, could we have seen the end of the Bridgestone/ Nissan contract on the 18s? I have ordered Michelin XGT Z4 Sport Pilots for my Z. It appears from what I have found it is a redesign of model that was offered before. My dealer has offered to pay for the fronts, and I will pay for the rears. The Michelins cost my dealer less than the Bridgestone 040s. Thanks everyone for their response to my question.

Front tires are like new after 1 yr but rear tires only last 1 yr so for the price I changed to Kuhmo ASX for half the price.

I switched to the 19inche PS2's and I LOVE the tire compared to the Toyo T-1S. They are even a few lbs lighter than the ultralight toyos. More grip under all conditions....and absolutely planeted in the wet.
