Default Thinking of trading my 350z for an STI or an EVO, what do you think?

Ok , I love my Z but for several reasons I am thinking of trading it in for either an EVO or an STI. I am leaning towards the STI just because of the extra power it has over the EVO. I have an 03 touring, all stock. First off I am sick of dealing with Nissan and the tire issue. 2nd I live in new england and would have a much easier time in the winter with awd. Although I have not tried snow tires yet. Has anyone tried studs or blizaks (snow tires)? Help at all? Also I have only seen a few STI's on the street actually give them some gas, and man they freakin jump. Am I off base here or will a stock STI walk all over a stock Z? Are the new Z's and g35's with the 300hp any better? Why is it they are listed with less torque than the Z's with 287hp? If the STI's were as stylish as the Z's I there would be no question, I know they don't look as nice and don't catch as many looks as the Z. Also the STI seems much more cheap inside, but hey, it will out corner a Z anyday. What do you guys think?

i was looking at STi's for a while too, but i guess i can rough it for the winter... it's only a few months anyway... STi is faster then a stock Z, but the driving experience is completely different... imo, the Z is much more fun to drive

if you put the money you would lose on the trade(or close) toward performance parts i'm sure you can get the Z to outperform a stock STi, or at least match it

I'm thinking many here will disagree but...the stock STI is faster than a stock Z. But personally, of the two(STI and Evo) I would get the Evo. Maybe get the Evo MR? Or if you wanna stick with the Z family...the awd g35 sedan?

I drove a g35 awd sedan and was really disappointed by the power response. Especially off the line it was a much more luxury kind of ride & throttle response. Actually I think my 03 maxima has much better throttle response than the g35x had. As for the EVO, my friend has one. It blows me away at how well it handels, but it doesn't really have any more power than the Z. I guess I am leaning towards and STI. You make a good point, I will probably take a 5K hit when all is said and done. But I think 5K into my Z it still won't handle close to the STI and probably will still be slower. The only thing that keeps me keepint the Z or going to a G35C is the looks & interior. Much more stylish & better looking car. I hate that feakin wing, I'd probably take it off and put a stock WRX wing on the trunk......

Snow tires will make a big difference. I was thinking the same thing when purchasing the z. Should i get an sti? But i can't get over the looks of it at all and decided i would go with the z and eventually get some sort of FI to help give the z some more speed. The z will not be my daily driver so i'm not very worried about the winter. YOu might want to consider getting a beater for winter anyway, saves your paint/abuse on your nice z.

Each to his own i say. But this is how i see it

Sports Car vs. Sedan
Chick Magnet vs. 16 yr old magnet
Legendary Z vs. Lancer
Looks and performnce vs. just performance

If you plan to de-wing the STI or the Evo, I'd say just dont get it.

You don't love your Z. Go get an STI.

seems like you are more intersted in the stock performance numbers rather than the total package of the car...in that case you might as well go with the sti

If you are going to keep your vehicle stock and are worried about east coast weather, then how about the new Legacy? Same engine as the sti but detuned to 250, more comfortable, and better throttle response than an awd g35.

Maybe I am way off base but doesn't the STI kill the Z in every performance category? I mean come on, low 13's to a 14.0 is a huge difference. That is like comparing an altima to a 350Z some margin. Handling is the same isn't it? Maybe I am wrong. So really the only part the Z has over the STI is looks. I mean come on now, even the new mustangs will give a Z a good run. Maybe I will go with snow tires and wait another year and see what Nissan/Infiniti does for 06. Although I kind of already have it set in my head that I won't buy another Nissan because of the shitt with the tires. G35 will probably be the way to go. Yes I know, it is made by the same company.

If the tire issue is the only thing bothering you about the Z then put on the Nismo suspension. You'll save a bunch of $ vs. changing cars.
