Simply put, if you have a Z and must drive in wintry conditions at some point during the season, you have two choices: get snow tires (or at least all season tires), or plan on driving another vehicle when the conditions are bad. The original equipment tires are simply unacceptable when there is snow and/or ice on the road. Worse than anything you've ever driven.
For those who have never driven with snow tires, you will be amazed. The difference is astounding. From personal experience I recommend the Blizzaks...your traction will be as good as or better than an average front wheel drive car with all season tires.
You can get by with all season tires in the white stuff, but it's still sketchy, and not nearly as safe as with snow tires. I currently have Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires and they are great all season tires, but still do not compare to the Blizzaks in snow.

Definitive Results
After Tuesday and Wednesday's 14+' of snow on top of a day's worth of ice, the Blizzack's proved they are as great as advertised. 25 miles up to Cedar Rapids in nasty conditions.
Minimal initial slippage if I started in 1st, but almost none when starting in 2nd. No fishtailing or side slippage whatsoever.
Amazing to ride by all the 4x4's & FWD's either in the median or the ditch. Wednesday's count in CR was over 30 vehicles left on the roadside.
No further doubts, get a set of Blizzack's for the winter and sticky tires for the rest of the year.
Course you gotta drive the Z, not just ride around in it.
