Angry Z and Snow & Icyroad...

Man! what a day I had with my Z...I had to travel the I-135 going north from Wichita,KS to Salina ks... (I have to go to my post, Fort Riley, Ks) which is about 70 miles.... took me nearly 6 hrs and two times spun off the road.... needless to say the road was very icy about 1-2 in thick..... temp. was 30 F.... I only make it to Salina and called up my buddy to pick meup with his Mustang....if i try going over 30mph... the wheel started to slip and fishtail.... hmm I was crawling 5-10 mph.... and the wheels have no traction at all whatsoever...... by the way everything is stock... no snow tires. hmmm I mentioned earlier about spun off the road... fortunately no damage at all just acouple spinout 1 time cop stopped call the tow truck costs me 60 bux.... will be moving to Fort Lewis Wa soon hopefully it gets better there.... I love the car dont get me wrong but it is not built for snow...Ill drive it again this weekend suppose tobe sunny...................just wan to share my experience with u guyssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

That's why I'm really scared. I live in Kentucky, where our winters can be really bad.

We've had rain for the past week already (thank goodness it isn't ice or snow). I told my boss if it starts snowing heavy or icing, I'm not coming to work. I got lucky because during Christmas vacation, we had a snow & ice storm. My Z was parked until it all melted away.

I wouldn't even consider driving my car in the snow. Especially if you dont have snow tires. Apparently, as some people have commented on here, snow tires make a huge difference. If you are going to be driving in the snow, i would recommend getting a set.

The Z is absolutly horrible in the snow. But in an empty parking lot it could be kind of fun

I used to have a rear wheel drive BMW while at college in Pittsburgh. The car had absolutely no traction in the winter time. So, my simple solution was to put about 100 pounds of dead weights in the trunk and this helped a lot. If you have to drive in the snow, I suggest doing the same for at least a little more traction.

Driving the Z in the snow with the bundled all-season tires is just plain dangerous. You need some Blizzaks winter tires. (kinda pricey though)

Get yourself a front wheel drive beater Honda. You can get those for what you would pay for Blizzaks and weight for the rear. LOL LOL. My Z is in Hibernation for the winter here in Nebraska.

Get tire chains if you have to drive in the winter! Good Luck!

Got the Blizzaks... no worries... unless there's a dump of snow, then you're plowing. I thought about a beater, but winter here is 6 months... too long to go without and have that much money tied up in something sitting in the garage.

Default Potenza RE040s

The RE040s that come on the Z are summer tires.

Thatd be so fun if you can drive the car to a really big empty place when the whole floor is icy so you can slide and do donuts until u barf and not hit anything(maybe not till barfing tho haha).

i tried the Z last winter in the snow, and it was a mess. couldnt even get out of my parking lot. this yr i garadged the Z and bought a beater. its so nice to plow through the snow and not have to worry whether or not i fishtail into a curb or lamp post or whatever. i feel much safer in my beater minivan (yes, minivan) than i did in my Z.

No complaints this year !!! Now i love driving my truck in this winter mess... and knowing my Z is covered in the garage for the cold winter months is great... i drove her the first time in 3 weeks, last weekend and all i can say is, i respect her even more than i did when she was my daily driver... cant wait to the spring when i'll have my kit, rims, plenum and exhaust on...

I live in TN and we had some of that ice storm here too. I was doing some xmas shopping when it all started coming down. There was no way to climb even the most simple hills. The **** swung around to the right and the only way I could get up the hill was to use my right rear mud flap as traction against the curb and cut the wheel hard. Luckily, I only cracked that mud flap, no body damage. I think I'm going to remove them anyway since I'm impartial to them. I guess the funniest part of that whole experience was pulling back into the parking lot at my job, which is mostly flat and having to drift to one side at .3 mph to even park the sucker. I walk past the windows and all my co-workers were watching me and like 50 people giving me the golf clap. They all got the finger in return. heh, theyre just mad they don't have a Zcar. Needless to say, It stayed in the lot all throughout xmas until it all melted. Our Zs surely don't handle well on the snow and ice BUT they are beautiful parked. LOL

The Z comes with summer performance tires. Get some winter performance tires, get 100lbs of salt or sand bags in teh back and you are good to go.

I just drove 70mph in 2inches of snow here in Boston on the Highway - not a problem.

For those concerned people (like me!) who are strongly considering winter tires for the Z....Check out this winter tire comparo from Tire Rack......all of these tires are suitable for Z with 17 inch wheels.

Safe Driving!

I live in Kansas City and we had one inch of ice the last few days. I put a set of Blizzaks on my 2003 Touring after being stuck on 1/2 inch of snow last year. Now I am getting around better than any car I have driven. I even chose to drive my Z over the wife's Accord FWD. Yesterday I tested the car by driving home on a route that tested the traction up the steepest hills I could find and did not even activate the SLIP light! Love the Blizzaks!
