clutch catching very low for everyone?
Is this normal on the 350Z .. ive seen several reports of it but Im wondering if this is true for everyone. My clutch only seems to really catch about an inch off full depression .. my other cars have been a lot more forgiving then this.
let me know if this is true for everyone

This is typical behavior of a self-adjusting clutch. When I replaced the clutch in my current Z ('91), I used a Jim Wolf clutch, which was self adjusting. During the first week or so of use, the catch was right near the floor. As I broke the clutch in, the catch dramatically raised. Now, I can depress the pedal maybe an inch or so and it will engage. Datsun Dynamic told me this was also the case for Nissan clutchs in the Z32s, so I wouldn't be surprised if the same is true for the 350s.
Yeah, mine's close to the floor also, but only have 400 miles on it.
On the other hand, my Z32-TT, engages close to the top - have been told I probably need a new clutch, but I'm not sure if I believe that - only has 63K miles, and never been raced or abused. I'm hoping the "under-dash" adjustment will move the clutch engagement closer to the middle of pedal travel. Anyone know?

You should definitely get the issue resolved because there could be a number of problems going on. Your clutch could be dragging, meaning it never fully disengages, causing premature clutch wear, and even worse... a fried transmission!

infact, I have my seat rather forward to I can give it the full push....as a result, my right leg feels a little cramped from what I am used to...

My car was delivered Monday. Took it out for a test drive (my first time behind the wheel of a 350). The clutch was actually a little touchy (which felt like a typical new clutch), but as I drove her throughout the day and got used to the feel, I started to really pay attention to where the catch seems to be heading.
From what I can tell, it's very similar to the Jim Wolf clutch I have in my Z32 - the catch is high to middle (in terms of displacement of the pedal) and very specific. It is a "notchy" transmission, especially felt in the gear shifter. The clutch/shifter feel is very similar to a Ferrari I rented in Florida ('99 F355 with 7K mi on it).
Those of you experiencing continued "low catch" issues with the clutch should have it evaluated. It certainly doesn't seem to be the case with my car, though I have only been able to drive her for one day (VIN # 5522)

I have no problem with the clutch and where it engages. You will get used to it and then you will have no problem with it. I have 2,500 miles on the Z and I don't even think about it anymore. My view is that it actually has a lot of range in the clutch. It starts engaging early but full gripping doesn't take place till you pull your foot back further. I find this allows you to squeeze the throttle and slip the clutch to get great head snapping acceleration off the line. Remember just because it is different doesn't mean it is wrong or broken.
I took my car to the dealer yesturday for this particular reason.
He sat with me and watched.
FACTS:
"clunk" sound happens with a jolt on only 1-2 gearing.
I take my foot off or release the gas pedal when I go next gear.
Once I engage the second gear, give more speed.
What am I doing wrong? He told me that I trying on a low RPM. I have been doing this for a long time and never had any problem with that.
