Default stray rock hit my windshield on the highway...

Leaving a crack about 6 inches long near the bottom of the driver's side. I heard that these are repairable... does anyone here have any suggestions for repairing this? I heard that the windshields for 350z's cost a ton (around 2,000) and thats something i can't afford at the moment thanks

Insurance should cover windshield replacement. The car won't pass inspection with a cracked front shield. Also, there are several places that do fills in the little cracks before they turn into big ones. I don't know if that would be an option for you since you say yours is already about 6 inches.

Just be sure to find a place with a good rep and good luck!

wooooooo no no no. first off, chipped are repairable, like a little star. not a 6inch crack, not that I know of anyway. it will spider across the windsheild.

as for 2 grand? I sure hope not. my sister cracked her windshield on her grand prix GTP with heads up display, so they had to give it a special coating for reflectivity(word?) on the inside.

even with that special expensive coating it was like 500. a normal should be around 2-300$. unless theres something really special about the Z's windsheild that Im unaware of.

Default Your insurance will know

Normally if it was a star they can seal it so it dosent continue to spread .. but if you have a crack that starts at the bottom or is at the bottom of your windscreen then ..yes your insurance.. minus your deductible will cover the replacement...

Good luck!

yes, insurance will cover it, but Id bet you have a 500$ deductable. if it is indeed 2000$ then sure use insurance, but if its barely 500$, or less as I suspect it is. then you are asking for a rate hike for no benifit. and if you even call them about it, they might raise you, even if you dont actually put a claim in(this happened to someone, they called to see if it was worth it)

contact nissan and ask for a reccomendation on a windsheild shop that they have experience with, most dealers dont do this sort of repairs, but they know who can.

Most insurances has a zero deductible on glass insurance so I wouldn't worry about paying anything out of pocket. If and when you do get it replaced I would only ask for OEM equipment so they won't put any aftermarket part in. On some glass it costs a lot with no insurance. I had my windshield replaced in my 1993 Nissan Altima replaced under insurance and they puit the price they charged the insurance company on the invoice. It said that it cost $700. Regular windshield nothing special.

Default Whoa everybody!

You cannot repair a six inch long crack and not expect it to propagate later. I have researched this already. YOu NEED a Nissan windshield if you have the auto-dimming rear view mirror. There is a cable assembly bonded to the windshield to supply the mirror with 12V power. Nissan windshield cost for the 350Z is $985. (NOT $2K!) I would recommend sticking to Nissan and not go aftermarket.

you are pretty close to me, i'm in whitestone. anyhow back to your window, i just asked one of my friend, who also happens to be my dealer saleman at starnissan. He told me about this company that fix all of their dealer windshield. you may want to give them a call and let them see your windshield, here is the number 718-533-6142, and here is also a beeper number 917-246-3626. i think the compnay is called "clark windshield repair"
good luck. i don't think it should cost you over 200 bucks for the fix. one more thing, because i'm taking my car back to service tomorrow to look at the shifter problem, i wonder if you have some time tonight that we can meet up and if i can check your shifter. thx. pm me

I too got a rock. It hit hard because it came off a truck going the other way. Immediately there was a crater but no crack. Parked it and a half hour later there was an 8 inch crack. I got the chip repair guys to fix it. They did a normal repair on the impact crater and then drilled a hole at the end of the crack and did a repair there as well. The crack has not expanded in 2 weeks.

About the mirror, if you take off the plastic running between the mirror base and the roof you will see that there is a stand alone cable there. Thus, the mirror will work with any windshield you care to use. I did have the glass shop check, and they said it's a "dealer item" so yes a replacement is probably expensive.

This happened to me the first month I had my SE-R. For everyone's reference, a Sentra windshield was $399.

Glass should be zero deductible and won't affect your rate.
