Default Insurance cost on the Z

Younger drivers...(I'm 21)...who do you have insurance with, and how much do you pay? Also include how your driving record is because mine isn't so great.

This is assuming you have your own policy, unless your parents want to let me on theirs as well

Just trying to get an idea of what I'm up against.

That would be a dream for me, I doubt I'd get anywhere close to that. Right now I'm paying $130 a month with Nationwide for minimum coverage on my 1996 Olds Cutlass Ciera But I got an online quote from progressive for $55 a month so I'm switching to them. I'd have to wait about a year and a half for my driving record to be clean but I don't want to wait that long to get my Z.

A lot depends on where you live. Rates around the country vary greatly.

I'm 18 years old... I have a bad driving record. 10 or so tickets in the state of illinois, 2 in the state of mississippi... I've been in three accidents, one wasn't my fault, one i hit a telephone pole, and one i rear ended someone. I'm under my dads name and he has a clean record, no tickets or accidents, 700 a year/ full coverage through west bend mutual insurance.

progressive.com lets you run a quote... you put in bs information if you don't want them to contact you or run a credit check. I think you can leave the SSN blank and it will give the rate estimates assuming you have good credit or something.

This will let you get an idea of how much you should expect to pay in your area. I also used it to decided between several cars I was looking at, when I saw how much the is300 was for insurance I completely lost intrest in it.

$146 a month for full coverage and I'm 24! It's going to drop some more when I hit 25.

Im 18, clean driving record, good student discount, and multi-car discount. I have a 84 Porche 944, 01 Acura Integra GS-R, and just got the Z. Comprehensive, collision, theft on the 944 and GSR, full coverage on the Z. That comes out to 1200 a year for the 3.

wtf, I pay about 1800 every 6 months. One of you guys is definitely sleeping with someone form your insurance company. I'm 21, it was 2500 every 6 months but dropped once I hit 21.

Ha ha, lol. I agree with Nismo. I pay $1600 every 6 months for full coverage on my '05 Z, but I'm 23 with 1 speeding ticket. I also live in the San Francisco Bay Area where everything is expensive.

im 22, in NC with my own policy. i am single with only the Z on my coverage and i pay $153/mth for the first 6 months, then itll drop to $130 something after that. i have two tickets on my insurance record and no accidents. it will go down even more when my last ticket drops in October this year...then even more when i turn 25 obviously. im with USAA though, they usually have better rates.

I'm 24 with a clean driving record and really good credit that chose Progressive as my insurer. Prior to buying a Z, I did shopping for insurance because even though I could afford the Z, if insurance was too expensive, the Z wouldn't have been worth it. I looked at State Farm Auto, Allstate, Metlife, and Progressive. The first 2 quoted me about $1200 for 6 months. Metlife offered me $900 for 6 months. Progressive initially offered me $850 for 6 months.

These prices reflected the following coverage: $500 deductibles for Bodily Injury Coverage for $100,000 per person (Underinsured/Uninsured) with a max of $300K each accident. Property Damage liability is $50,000 per accident.

Credit plays a big role when Progressive gives you your rates. The reason I mention the credit thing is that Progressive uses your credit score more extensively than other insurance companies do. They have some sort of formula to correlate good credit with good driving. (Bad credit, bad driver). It sounds weird, but there was an article I read in some BB Bureau on Progressive. That's how they offer their rates so low.

So, for full coverage w/ the coverages above on my Z, it costs me $652 per 6 months. I am single and under my own insurance. Previously, I was under my father for a 2000 Altima for $650 per 6 months (w/ less coverages).

Nice post kcobean. I think the original creator just wanted to compare actual real world prices amongst other Z owners, that's why he asked.

Yep, I'm sure that's the case. But as the OP stated, age, driving record, location, policy properties, etc. all create some pretty heavy price swings, as is clearly evidenced by the replies. The result is that the OP has no better idea what HIS insurance situation is going to be, so the thread is kinda wasted space. No harm in it, just trying to save new folks here the frustration of not getting their questions fully or accurately answered, that's all.

Point in case, when you read through this, do YOU get a good sense for what his rates are going to be? If so, I'd like to know where you got your crystal ball!

Peace!

Crap man. All of that in only 2 years?

I pay $1k/year for the Z on a 3-car policy. 29 years old, perfect record.
