Default What other cars ar "on par" with the 350z?

I am hopefully going to get a Z within this year. At the time, the 350 seems to be by far the best choice. What other cars out there are actually on par with the 350Z? here is what i think, but tell me if i'm wrong:

1. S2000
2. Porsche Boxter S
3. Audi TT quatro (?)
4. SLK 320 (?)
5. I can't even think of any more

Also, what is true 0-60 time of the z? nissan says under 6 seconds, but exactly how much under 6 seconds isit?

yes
yes
no(I dont think so anyway; specially for the price increase)
no
most domestic V8s can hang in the quarter mile

mags have gotten 5.4-5.6 I think, and thier best was a 13.99 quarter. but take those times with a grain of salt since a member here hit 13.8 at 103 in his own car.

Default Just a note -

That 13.8 was under optimal conditions.

If I remember correctly it was getting dark and cooling off, and he deflated the tires into the 20's (PSI)

So the 13.99 on normal street conditions probably isn't too far off.

ahhh I was unaware of that, I knew he was at sea level, and that he did have a K&N intake, I dont really think that helped any for HP tho, the POP intake lost hp, but somehow K&N helped? I donno. I think Id call it a wash there.

anyway, lets just say its a 13second car, actual times depend on drivers ability and how much you hate the car.

If you call it a HIGH-13s car that would be more accurate.

The only car I gave serious consideration vs. the Z is the Stook (S2000).

Style - close call
Performance - close call
Everyday driving - Z (torque = better daily driving in traffic)
Weekend cruising - Stook (roadsters can't be beat for summer driving)

In the end, the torque argument won me over... that and I'm using the CAD$2K I saved buying the Z Track vs the Stook to take a nice trip to Mexico.

Really only the S2000 is in the same ballpark with price and performance.

I guess the mustang is as well but I don't give domestics a second look.

The Boxster is right there in every performance catigory but it starts at $52K (I think $55-56K is more likely). For a bit more you could buy a S2000 AND a 350Z.

Hard to believe but for $23K the WRX is hard to beat. C&D got the exact same 0-60 and 1/4 mile times for both the WRX and the 350Z. The WRX is not good looking, but it will run circles around the Z in the rain and snow. (see the I crashed my Z post)

roadsters are a blast, but weekend is 2 days, week is 5... thats all I needed. Ive driven a convertable, and they are sweet. but only when its nice weather and the tops down. for all other times, they are a few steps behind a nice quiet solid roof. if the SC430 wasnt 65000$ Id say count me in.

also the question to ask is depending on location, tho S2000 is a close competitor with msrp very near the Z. I was able to get a Z without preorder for MSRP. I had no chance of doing that with the S2000.

Solution one: I got a Hardtop. It transforms the car into a coupe.

I have the oppisite experience: I can get the S2000 all day long for MSRP, but the Z is being marked up or not available. Might be due to local conditions.

I test drove a used WRX that had a BOV, exhaust and a few other minor mods, and I swear those guys must launch the hell out of those things to get the times they do, because the one I drove would launch like crazy, but after that it had no ***** at all. I would much rather have a Z. But it might have just been the one that I was driving. By the way, the WRX sounded like a lawn mower, and besides the sound of a LS1 at WOT,my next pick would be a 350. Those 350Z's sound AWESOME

Before you make up your mind you have to ask yourself a few questions like:

1. Coupe? Convertible?
2. Sleek sharpe lines design and round and smooth?
3. Interior room? or 2+2? even 4 door?
4. $$$?
5. What you want your car take you? Track? Dragg? or Fun cruzing?

I asked myself all these questions, before I made my choice and without putting any other cars down or insult. Personally, I love 350Z but I must have the convertible. I love AWD Subaru but I hate 4 doors.....hehehehe.
