Thinking of trading my Z for an '04 Acura TL

ditto.....I got the Z to get away from FWD and am NEVER going back. Honda must have been on heroin to release such a cool car with nice HP and make it FWD. If it was RWD it would own 3 series Bimmers all day.
My father just bought a Black TL with Camel interior. It is beautiful inside. Better than the G and a better price too. Unfortunately I have to lease a TL for my wife now. Oh well! It'll keep her out of my Z.
The TL is a great car...I test drove one with a friend recently. It is a good deal in terms of luxury performance. It has more luxury than a g35 IMO, but it is a little less fun to drive.
As for trading in your Z, just make sure you really want a TL. Sounds like you bought the Z in haste...make sure you are getting a car you will be happy with this time. Sorry things didn't work out with the Z...but you need to enjoy whatever car you drive. If that's a sporty and cushy 4 door, so be it. Acura is great at building those cars.

TL is really nice. I would chose it over a G35 any day. Both Infiniti and Nissan quality just suck to me. The body gaps are horrid and the interior material, fit and finish, etc etc are horrible. It's a good thing they have a good eye for exterior design. The TL is such a great deal I think. For cheaper than my Z, you get a LOT more cool stuff (if that's what you're looking for). The 6MT models have Brembo brakes on the front too (but they say 'Acura'). Bluetooth and a GREAT nav system, projector lights... A great car compared to G35 if you ask me.
My biggest gripe was the FWD though. You consider a 5 series?

Get the Acura its a very nice car and well made. I have a 2002 TLS and drove the G35 coupe before deciding on my Z.
Here's my two cents:
Interior: Acura
Headroom back seat: Acura
comfort: Acura
Power: G35
sound system: Toss up
Best thing about the Acura, comes fully equipped with everything. Nav. is the only upgrade.

New TL has a vibration issue with it's front control arms and they have a tire issue as well; out of round and vibration from their Bridgestones.
Plus it is first production year so tons o' problems. Built in Ohio.
Anyways the last generation TL, CL, Accord, Odyessey, MDX and Pilots have unbelieveable number of tranny failures. Honda ended up offering a warranty extension on the tranny for the automatic equipped models from 2001-2004.
I would not buy a TL, but if you love it, then you must get it regardless of its shortcomings.

like someone said before who had an RSX and had tranny problems...Acura's quality control is going down...much more so than in the past...i think it's just increasing profit margins.
my friend had an Acura TL type S and has gone through 3 transmission (automatic) and other people he knows have problems with the manual transmission as well.
it's up to you...i would seriously consider another make than Acura even though it does look nice.
I wish you problem free automotive ownership!

I say go for a BMW 330i, decent power, decent handling, RWD, inline-6, and decent interior.
To be honest, I know some people have issues going from RWD to FWD. Make sure you know what your doing, otherwise you'll always be bothered by FWD performance (torque steer, wheelhop, understeer, etc.).

Yes I agree that it would be better off with RWD, but honestly it is a sporty sedan that still handles very well for FWD. I say go test drive one and see if the handling suites you. Also the Bridgestone Turanzas that comes factory suck hardcore. See if they have one with the upgraded sport tires.

I love the way those cars look & feel inside. LOVE 'EM. Anyone have any experience with them???? I think I'm ready to move into something more "luxourious"
(yeah, this should be in the "other vehicles" section, but this thread contains the Z that im considering trading

I do not own, nor have I ever owned, an Acura -but my parents own a TL and an RL (both are a few years old). I have driven them both, but never got the feeling of luxury from either. More defined and well designed, attention to detail, but not luxury. They have a tightness that many cars lack, but I also saw that in my friend's new Honda Accord (leather, all the trimmings).
The RL is OK, but it's just not my type of car. I just can't take bigger sedan type cars, coming from driving many small sports cars. I did like my mother's TL much better. Power seemed very good, but it's not a sports car.
You do what you thik is best, but there's a big difference between an Acura and a Z, much like if you asked what people thought about you trading your Z for a full size pickup truck. Apples and oranges.

Exactly, I traded my 2001 MDX for the Titan. At the time it still had the value that I did not pay anything but taxes for the Titan. I had 45K miles and the tranny issue just started. I really liked the MDX but Acura doesn't really know how to make a luxury vehicle. Acura was suppose to be the luxury arm of Honda. They are still not there yet.
I am actually thinking about trading in my ZR for the Infinity M45.

I think some people dont take Acura as a luxury brand. Acura has a lower entry level market car compared to the other brands. For example Lexus, they have the IS300 which is at the bottom of their lineup. Not everyone can afford the Lexus, BMW, Benz, Jags ands etc..
The entry level car for the Acura in Canada is the EL. A ulgy expensive upgrade of a Honda Civic, which cost several thousands more for leather and other things.

You are right, the Acura is FAR from luxury.......
