Nothing is safe from a good car thief. Be afraid, be very afraid!

Its a good idea to get a passive alarm system. Mine is very sensitive. But if a thief really wants your car they will steal it.

If they have a flatbed, they will take your car. More likely your car won't get stolen, but items inside can be. The immobolizer and stock alarm doesn't do much to prevent that.

A good alarm, LoJack, The Club, Vin number etched on widshield, residence in a low crime district, and Full Auto insurance is the best you can do. Let fate handle the details.

A good alarm, well hidden fuel cut switch, ignition kill, detachable steering wheel(sacrifice air bags, Z steering wheel) should do the trick unless they tow your ride away.

A couple of weeks ago, thieves stole the Mercedes CEO's personal limo which was built and touted by the company to be unstealable. They did it just to prove that nothing is safe. All you can hope for, is to deter the small time criminals.

If the thief replaces all your serial numbers on your car with serial numbers from another Z (like a totaled one) then the cops can look at the sketch on the window and compare it to the serial numbers on the body to make sure they match..

If the thief sees the etching on the windshield, wouldn't they just replace the windshield? The only sure way to keep someone from stealing your car is to take a crap on the driver seat.

thieves mostly steal cars to chop it up and sell the parts. if the VIN is etched on the windshield, it's readily identifiable which car it came from. if the VIN on the window matches up to the VIN of a stolen car, then it's more likely the thieves will get busted when they try to sell the windshield.

So it means they will sell all your parts except the windshield. I guess you could just etch your vin all on your parts.

I never said window etching was the best idea. Besides, If your car gets stolen, and they get to the point of removing the windshield, Caught or not, your car is probably considered totaled by now!

haha... yeah. but then again, thieves are pretty greedy. anything you do to minimize their gains will help deter them. every little bit helps.

and the immobilizer transponder system is merely an electronic ignition cutoff system. it can easily be bypassed.

the next best thing beyond a car alarm is a passive car alarm... for those times you forget to set it, it will do it itself.

above that would be Lojack, if you REALLY want your car after it's been molested. you can get other products that track your vehicle by GPS in real time, and you can watch it move via internet or have it send texts to your cellphone when activated... Trimtrack is one of those devices, costing you under $500 for the device and installation, and $19 a month for internet based monitoring.

the last line of defense would be the Big F*ckin Negro 5000... a 6'8", 320lb former defensive lineman in the NFL to stand by your car with a Louisville Slugger and start swinging when someone gets within predetermined range of your vehicle.
