Just curious what you guys with mods have done - if anything with your insurance.
If you've spent thousands of dollars on modding your Z, have you guys reported your mods to your insurance company in case you got in an accident? Or do you take the risk and not tell them?
Just curious what some of you think.
I've spent around 13-14k in mods and thinking about adding another 8-14k soon and realizing I'd be out a lot of money if I got in a serious wreck

Most Insurance will pay for upto a certain amount of added parts and after that you can pay for more coverage. If you are planning on putting that much in I would say it is worth a call to your company. You shouldn't have to tell them what the parts are, just tell them how much extra coverage you need and make sure you keep receipts.
State farm covers all parts if you have reciets including labor. They will charge you a little more though. I know a couple of guys that have a lot of money in mods and have switched to state farm for that very reason.
If I ever get to the point where I have spent over $5k then I'm going to tell them everything. Otherwise, if something happens, that money is gone. They won't believe you if you tell them that it was there.
"Here's X dollars for your car."
"No, but I had $15k worth of mods on my car."
"Yeah, right."

My insurance company laughed at me when I told them how much more coverage I needed.
******!! So I switched to progressive and pay $10 bucks more a month for covering my whole car as is.

Most insurance companies will pay for the value of the car if it is wrecked. That means if you can show you added mods that increased the value of the car they will cover it. Just save your receipts and take pictures of your mods.

alright thanks guys - I called my insurance and they said for every $1000 in parts I add to my car (does not count install fees), the annual rate goes up $10 a year.
So i my case I have about $11000 in parts alone, so that's $110 extra a year or $9.16 extra a month.
That seems like a pretty decent deal to me . I was thinking if I had bought a $45k car, my insurance would be like $60 more a month or something

I'm paying about $200/month as is right now with me being 25 years old, not married, having a speeding ticket on record, and also I totaled one of my cars 9 months ago.
I shopped around a few months ago, and the lowest other company I could find was progressive and they were going to charge me 280/month. I'm currently using met

I work for Progressive. We sell what's called Custom Parts & Equipment Coverage. The first $1000 in mods is covered under comp or collision. This coverage is then sold in $1000 increments.
