350Z sales fall 23%
For Pete sake, they were short 400 cars, it's like you guys are "day trading" the car market, Nissan has a lot of money in the Z development, it will be around for at least a couple more years with minor improvements and then maybe a restyle.
MR2s big problem is space, not only is it just a two seater but you can't even load the ever important golf clubs (I don't play, but this seems to be the standard).

Is this % drop a monthly drop from last month? from last feb? From last quarter?
I was under the impression that nissan builds 30k Z's a year worldwide with the US being the largest buying market.
how many Z's are sold a year in the US?
How many Z's are currently on dealer lots?

exactly.
January represents the slowest month in the year for ALL retail sales. unless they're comparing these "losses" with January 2004, they dont mean crap.
I can understand why Altima sales dropped. I got so tired of seeing the "All New Altima" commercials. What is new about it???? Basically the same body style for the past few years and it is ALL new???

might be because there's a lot of competition now.
People are realizing the Z isn't all THAT fast of a car and costs a lot to make run faster.
I know it's a different class car, but the corvette has to be eating Z sales. The corvette just keeps getting better, and the Z really hasn't changed since 2003. Oh yeah 300hp and a revised suspension that still doesn't solve the tire feathering.
The engine is close to maxed out.
There's a lot more other cars out there now and also on the horizon you got cars like the new supra and the next gen V6 lotus not to mention a whole bunch of other sedans that are almost as fast as the Z like the maxima and altima for instande. The only thing the Z really has going for it is looks at this point....

Fred...
Just to get the record straight...The comparison is from Jan. '04 to Jan.'05. Not from Dec. to Jan. & not 400 less.
January'04 2,431
January'05 1,728.....difference = 703 less Z's sold.
Also they had production problems, changing plants & etc. in Dec of '03 which in turned inflated the higher amount sold in January of '04. Taking that into consideration....If I had to guess....it would of been very close to even sales!! That's excellent!

winter has a bunch to do with it and people have to remember that Nissan had a huge year in 2004 gaining a big piece of market share and sales records almost monthly for different model lines. Sometimes there are going to be months where stuff doesnt sell as well.

I thought I read somewhere that they didn't need to sell much more than 20,000 units a year of the Z. Might be mistaken, but it isn't expected to be a volume car, it is a "halo" car. I'm like some of the others here: I prefer not to see a lot of Z's on the road. Keeps it fresh and so when you do see one, it is still the "wow" factor. I hope it never gets to the point where it is like "...oh, there's another Z..." like it is with Altima's, Camry's and Accords!
