"2 or 3 guages" what? Just for the hell of it?

Here's some advice: Make a plan, do your own research. Once you've got a better idea of what you want, research those particular selections. I'm sure you'll be happy with the final result as long as you do your homework on what you're getting. And please, don't turn your Z into some riced-out colorblind ****, if you feel so inclined, trade the Z for a Civic, and your $800 will get you a lot farther. Glad to welcome you to the Forums

Getting a good intake and exhaust is nearly impossible for $800 on a Z unless you get used parts or buy generic parts off of ebay.

A good exhaust will run you anywhere from $700-1500 depending on what you get. If I were you I would look in the private sellers forum or ebay for some good used parts.

Bump that figure up to about $1100 and you could get a Nismo Exhaust and Nismo CAI.

Less if you find someone selling used ones... but I've yet to see any latly... Good luck tho

Do some searching here on intakes. None has proven to be worth the $$$ IMHO. The popcharger seems to be the overall favorite but even that hasn't proven to give much of a power boost in and of its self. The main problem is that the Z's factory intake is already pretty damn good. Personally I just used a $35 K&N drop in filter with the stock exhaust. I am probably getting no more or less than any of the aftermarket intakes.

Good Luck
