Unhappy Chip repair

Alright, I did something dumb, and put a chip in the spoiler. It is dented in a little bit, and the paint is cracked a little around it. I am not too upset about it, because I want to get the nismo spoiler some time in the future anyway, but it bothers me, and I feel like everyone who is looking at my car is staring at the huge white gash (I know it isn't that big, but it feels like it) Anyway, I have the touch up paint (both of the ones they have at courtesey nissan, they sent me the bottle accidentally) but since there is a dent, I need to fill it with something. I was thinking of pulling away the remaining pieces of the paint that are fractured and filling the dent with some slow cure epoxy, smoothing with a piece of soft plastic, and then going over it with the touch up paint+clearcoat. Any comments? Thanks.

I thought it was a huge crater.. and its what an inch.. yeah.. I know how you feel.. everyone sees it... if your not getting the replacement spoiler.. get it fixed.. or touch it up so that its less noticable.. I couldnt live with it there...

good luck

I'd take it to a shop and have it repaired. Then they can simply repaint the entire part. You will NEVER get a patch and touch up of a spot like that on a metallic finish to look worth a damn yourself.

I know it isn't that big (put the first pics are a good representation for how it looks to me) I don't know how much it would cost to get a shop to do it, but it would only cost about $400 to get a new one, painted and delivered from courtesyparts.com. My deductable is $250, so I don't want to claim it on my insurance. I am not too worried about it, but I would like to do something to keep it from being so obvious (even if it is only obvious to me) and also to protect the paint from chipping further until I can get the nismo spoiler (though I wasn't planning to do that for a year or two).

Anyway, as for as a DIY solution, any suggestions? I know I wont be able to make it look as good as new, but I am just looking for something to make it less noticeable.

The lack of DIY suggestions should speak for itself. It will look bad. Why not jsut take it by a local body shop and ask. I bet you could get it repaired and painted for $100 - $150. Maybe less if you removed and reinstalled the spoiler yourself and just brought the part for them to work on.

C'mon - you spent 30 grand on the car. Do you really want to have it look like sh*t to save $150?

Don't feel bad...I chipped my paint to the primer with the damn gas nozzle. I parked a little further than I should have, and it jerked a bit as I was going for entry. AAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGHH!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't try to do it yourself unless you have body shop experience. You can get it fixed like new by a bodyshop. Just call a couple of very reputable ones. Tell them you always use them for body work, and that you have this very small but nagging problem you want to get fixed for low $. Ask them how much they would charge to fill a 1/2 dent in a fiberglass spoiler and repaint. They should be able to give you a number to compare by. I bet they don't charge more than $50-75 and it is well worth it because it will not look right if you try to use that touch up paint. Otherwise, if you really want to do it yourself, just get some filler at Auto Zone, and get to work.
