Dreaming of NISMO...
So I'm thinking (because I have nothing better to do until the end of August now)...let's say the 0-60 is around 5.5. Nismo is going to have to provide some pretty decent performance improvements to warrant the extra expense...think it'll be easy to get the Z under 5.0 with their stuff?
Yes, I know it's all just a guessing game, but I'm bored.

I can, without question, one billion percent guarantee you the car is faster than 5.5
I was originally told 5.2 but I have now heard 5.3 from various sources, as has also been posted on the board prior so I'm not breaking any rules or anything by saying this.
That's also stock. Change the exhaust (to a nice straight flow system) or get yourself an ECU upgrade from Jim Wolf (yes, he will have them available), Stillen or NISMO (in 2003 over here unless you import the ECU's from Japan in 2002) and yeah, you're beating the 5 mark pretty easy. There's other ways to do it of course, those are just two.
Not that it really matters.... I mean, we're buying the car because it's so damn attractive and (drum roll please).... it's a Z.
pretty fly for a white guy.

Well no one knows for sure that it won't be under 5.5 as is. Also it depends on the skill of the driver. But I am sure that no matter what the 0-60 time is, that there will be tons of aftermarket goodies to help everyone live out their fast and the furious fantasies.
Hey JmanZ, its seems like youre DYING to tell us the performance numbers man. It must be sooooo hard keeping them to yourself all this time. Dont u just want to spill it?
Just playing around. I respect the fact that you gave them youre word. Cant wait till july 3rd..or till you american pre-orderers get the surprise in the mail. Im pretty sure us canadian pre-orderers aint getting jack in the mail.

A canadian pre-orderer posted on zcar.com that he or she called nissan canada and asked them about the mailing. Nissan Canada stated that we wont be getting one. He or she then went on to ask when the specs and performance numbers would be released. Nissan Canada stated July 3rd. Therefore im going on the limb and assuming that we are not getting anything in the mail.

Azmo is right... haha, I am dying to say more but I can't. Not yet anyway.
Damn rules!!!!
(Right now, the powers that be are laughing. I can hear them all the way up here in Washington State!)

An ECU, if I understand it correctly, is a computer chip added to the car that controls how the engine runs (fuel, air intake etc.) That is my rudimentary understanding of it. OK, now will the REAL car guys please explain it for him.
As a canadian with a Z on the way, I must say I am pissed about the lack of info. My dealer claims they have not gotten the accessory list of the Z yet where you guys down south are stating that you already have the parts microfiche. All I want is a damn rear spoiler for my non-track
. We canadians do not even know what our car comes with. We were not given the option of floor mats, trunk mats, splash guards or stainless door sills. So do we get them or not? No one can tell me. HOWEVER, we did pay a lot less for the car then the US so if one of the ways they are saving money is by no mailers, then so be it and we should all thank Jmanz for relaying the info that we are not getting from Nissan.

ECU - Bassically like Dr Bonz said, the ECU is the main computer in your car. The ECU works basically as follows.
1. Inputs: ECUs recieve inputs from sensors in your engine, these sensors include things like the Intake Air Temperature (IAC), Intake Manifold Pressure, throttle position, oxegen sensor (o2). With these data points it then controls the amount of fuel, through the injectors, to run the engine smoothly and reliably. The input data points are used in a matrix to determine the 'so-called best' A/F ratio (Air/Fuel ratio) for the engine to run.
Typically manufactures will run the A/F mixture slightly rich to keep the engine cooler, running better, and safer. If the engine is run to lean it creates a lot of heat and things like detonation (pre-ignition), can occure.
An ECU upgrade will alter the programing of the stock ECU to give better performance. This, on an OBDII equiped NA motor, can sometimes give gains in HP and sometimes take power away depending on what else is done to the vehicle.
Things like the APEXi S-AFC is an air/fuel piggy back computer that tricks the ecu into seeing a different reading then the motors actually putting out. These are adjustable meaning with a good low-pass O2 sensor and some dyno time you can easily tune your engine across the whole power band at different intervals, ensuring your car is always running at peak performance.

I think that the 0-60 is for sure going to be under 5.5 secs..otherwise Jmanz wouldnt be soo excited to tell us. I anlayzed his posts and ive come to the conlcusion that hes DAMN excited!!
JmanZ i hope u just were not in a very good mood when u were writing those posts.

A little more info about rich/lean AF ratios...
Running the engine lean produces higher combustion chamber fluid temperatures. In addition, because the mixture is low on fuel relative to the air supply there's more free roaming oxygen scavenging around in the exhaust. The high temps combined with large amounts of unused O2 result in high NOx (nitrogen oxides) in the emissions. This is one of the EPA measured emissions that is BAD for the environment. So, they run the engines a little rich.
Running to rich on the other hand produces smoke in the exhaust but there's a delicate balance that works pretty good especially with the vehicles' catalytic converters. That's why they run a little rich instead of lean.

Thankfully, the Z is the Z. Regardless of where you are, the car has the EXACT same specs. There is no 3.0L european version, it's all 3.5 L goodness that will keep us smiling all the way until our Nismo catalog comes in the mail.

Personally, I love Canada. I don't know what you're talking aboot saying they're not real.

(I'm Canadian by birth so I can say aboot with the best of them! - heh)
