Engine Break-in Secrets
This may have been posted here before but it's worth a repost. This link describes the break-in process in detail. Please read it in it's entirety and then make your own decision on how you will break in your new Z (if it's not too late).
I have 220 miles on my Z now and I did not do this. It's probably too late for me to do it now, I hope the rings seated well in my car. I sent the link to one of my best friends who has raced cars for over 30 years. He said this is how he breaks in his race engines. He talked with a street car mechanic who agreed that this is what he does after a full rebuild to a street car. Neither has ever had a problem with ring seal in their engines.
Check it out here!

We did the same on our stock car motors. It does work but since these motors are torn down every few races I can not say how long thay last. As to the sport bikes how many bikes have over 10k miles? 20, 30 ect? I will follow Nissans instructions as I want a car I can put milage on, not a rebuild every few years. The next Z I buy will be raced so I will break it in hard.

Reading that link is like getting a hard slap in the face. It makes complete sense too. I don't think the nissan manual recommends changing transmission fluid for several thousand miles.

The site sounds reasonable, but like I mentioned in another thread, where's the proof? Is all the validity placed on the way two motorcycle cylinders look? He may very well be right, but he just doesn't have enough scientific data to back it up. He would need to do multiple controlled tests to convince me. Until then, I have no choice but to trust Nissan.
