All the time im afraid... :-/

I get challenged on the freeway alot at night...

A guy pulls up next to me, guns it a little bit then slows down... then takes off expecting me to follow... then a second later a cop flys by me to get him...

My buddy has a 300ZX TT, the body of the car is shorter (can tell by the small quarter window) only two seater like ours, NA's are 2 + 2, also by the rear wing the brake light is attached to it, where as the non turbo the third brake light is part of the enite rear light assembly. Pretty sure on this. Correct me if I'm wrong.

As for the challenging portion, two cars only so far. Lost to a late
80's 911 Turbo (highly modded, didnt realize it) and an RX-8 which I smoked.

I only got challenged a couple times when I had my Z. Once was by an older Nissan Sentra on the freeway, must have been turboed or something cause he hung with me all the way up to 120 mph the I started to pull away from him. It was right when I very first got the car and the only thing I could think of was "Please dont tell me I just wasted 30k on this car.

Hmmm a variety of challengers.

1. Audi A4 1.8T - He just guns it and goes off turning into his apartment building. I guess he didn't want to line up or couldn't wait to go use the restroom.

2. Black C5 - Intentionally ran into my lane to make me brake. L.A. Traffic sucks, and my turn off was less than 10 secs away. I did a Tom Cruise (Top Gun) manuever and disengaged.

3. Black Rx-8 - We didn't do anything, I think we were both waiting to see who would take off first. Ended with nothing happening.

4. Black 350Z - I came up close to give him a thumbs up. He downshifted and sped off. I guess he doesn't like yellow Z's .

5. 1998 Toyota Camry - He wanted to show me that his FWD can take curves. I showed him I can take curves without braking and on 6th gear.

6. 05 Mustang GT - I was at an intersection stoped at a red light. The 05 Mustang had a green light across from me. He let me know that the v8 was loud and he went barrowling down the street. All I can do is sit at the red light and watch from my rear view mirror and pretend that I was beating him. (I have nothing against Mustangs, just it sucked for me to watch him go the other way)

7. A 1956 Bel Air - It has a wicked V8 in that thing. O yeah, it was my friend reving at me. . We were good citizens and decided to obey the law.

8. Handful of trucks and SUV's that like to take off fast. I don't understand these people. I can understand if its a BMW X5 4.4/4.8, Porsche Cayenne TT, Caddy SRX, Subaru Forester 2.5XT, Infinity FX, or even a PT Turbo.

if it was an older sentra he could have had an SR20DET in it... and that in a B14 could be quick!

I went with this guy in a S13 with an SR in it that had alot of work done... I kept creeping away up till 140MPH...

Once with only about 700 miles on my Z by some young kid in a Ford F150 - who claimed it was a Lightning - I was cruising down a residential street (Wolfe/Homestead - for those in Sunnyvale, CA area) and this Kid in the Ford F150 yells out of his window "you ever race lightning?" I looked over to the side and saw no Lightning emblem and replied: "no and busted up laughing at the dude" He kept asking me to punch it. I kept laughing at him. He finally got frustrated a drove off like a maniac.

Occasionally - I feel the pressure of Soccer Moms riding my @ss with their minivans

NA 300ZX comes in the shorter two-seater version as well.

Unless someone modified their NA 300zx, as mentioned above, the biggest ringers for a TT would be those four slits near the bottom of the front bumper, the turbo badging in the back, and that little lip spoiler with the non-integrated brake light.

Challenges: Use to get challenged all the time, especially by VW's for some reason (Gti's, GLi's etc): don't know what is up with that.

Ever since the wheels and drop, no one has stepped up. I guess folks in my town are chumps in regards to the low-risk factor. They expect me to be packin under the hood? I don't mind though, I rather not be bothered, nothing to prove.

Some dumass was trying to race me yesterday in a really old Jeep Cherokee with wheels bulging out of the fender LOL... It was a bunch of kids cutting across 3 lanes of traffic to try and get up next to me... they almost rear-end a car.. i dunno what they were trying to prove!?!.

I didn't even bother wasting my gas.

When I had my 03 DB tourning: another 350Z, Supra TT, Civics, CL-S, TL-S, Maxima, M3, S500, Boxster, and the famous white vans. I traded the 03 to 04 roadster, not too many challenges.

Glad I'm not the only one to report the frequent challenge from soccer moms in SUVs/minivans, usu. w/kids in the friggin' vehicle!! Many of 'em in my area seem to be offended if you dare to pass them when they're doing all of 45 mph, even if you signal the lane changes in advance and do so safely, and then they punch it to desperately try to catch up, cigarette dangling from their lips and junior holding on for dear life. Most usu. give up at about 100 mph, but those type vehicles challenging a Z would be like me trying to engage an Enzo.

Over in Danville, right in front of the Arlen Ness Motorcycle Showroom (figures), a new RX8, when they first came out, driven by an owner that actually believed the first speed numbers put out by Mazda. So he thinks his car is all that, we jump it, and it was laughable, I didn't even bother to shift into 3rd, he dropped and put his rotary-tail between his legs and ran home.

I think the quote I use in my profiles on my instant messenger client says it best.

"I love pulling up next to an RX-8 and seeing the look on the driver`s face... It's a look of 'I paid the same as you, my car looks like crap, and its slow.'"

I'm driving out to Western Kentucky to visit my parents this weekend. Its 197 miles out to Hopkins County, so maybe I'll run into someone on the parkway that will try to run me. I've only been raced once.

LOL I had an x5 4.8 try to race me once. He thought my car was just an all show ricers car and his truck could take me no problem b/c it is one of the fastest suv's.

I don't bash these fast SUV's b/c its cool they are putting performance in them but its still an SUV and can't compete with a sports car.

<rant>
As far as ford lightnings go I love them... but I can't give them too much credit b/c there is a guy at my work who think's his ford lightning is God's chariot. He refuses to race me b/c he says he doesn't have anything to prove since the mags say his car is faster than mine. I know he would beat me since I am also stock but its annoying that someone can talk so much game about their car and then never drive it fast. He thinks its the fastest car out of anyone in our company including the guy with the modded vette that runs low 12's on slicks. He also likes to talk about how he has gone to several racing schools and knows how to handle cars at high speeds. Good thing he went to racing schools to learn how to handle cars on the track then turn around and buy a truck. Not bashing the lighning I love it and I know it goes fast, but on a track... please. I really doubt someone as smart as he says he is would think a stock lightning was faster than a vette, not to mention a modded vette. What a moron.

Lightnings SUCK SUCK SUCK on a track. Equal drivers: a stock 350Z would rape a Lightning on a road course.

I've been out on the tracks with those quite often, and they're a joke. Only fast in straights, but they're a truck. There's only so much you can do to make up for the high center of gravity and poor chasis.

I get challenged all the time. Depending on my mood, time of day and area (the possibilities of cops) I give in, but only to around 60mph. Then they fly by me, like they one or something and throw there 4-ways on... good for you, I clap and say "congrats, your a homo" at the next light. Those are the stupid ricers in civics, preludes, celicas and RSX. The smart ricers stare in envy however, I do notice the occasional Soccer Mom floor it, actually I have had one Soccer Mom chirp her little 14's off the line. I needed a good laugh! Usually the faster sports cars, BMW's, Vette's and whatever give a thumbs up and don't try anything. It's the morons with under 150hp that think they are the cats azz!

(Un)fortunately I have a short commute and no opportunities to race. I have to go way outside of town to get any nice stretches of highway....but the cops stake those areas out so it's not worth the risk.
