All the time. Win some / Lose some. Dont knock the civics though. I was downtown after the club, and a guy in a Red 92-95 si hatch. Looked completely stock pulled up next to me , at the light we went and he smmmmoked my a**. We talked later , the guy must have been 54-59 ish. The car was a complete engine swap done right too, Turbo in all. Big fat intercooler. So stock looking on the outside. Very cool. I drove home going WOW! That was Neat

One time, while I had my GTI. I raced a guy in a white 350z (base)

We went from 0 -100mph and we were window to window looking at each other the ENTIRE WAY!!!! Of course I had an APR Chip, CAI, Diverter Valve, N75 Valve, and a 3" Turbo-Back Exhaust with high flo-cat. =) He had a drop in KN.

after 100mph he pulled on me about 4 -5 cars.

A few months later, I became a 350Z owner! =)

Ok a bit off topic, but since I've had the no one wants to race me.

They just look. One time I sorta raced a Civic Si I pulled on him, would have raced again but I had to get on the freeway.

Since I bought my 05 Enthusiast I probably get challenged a couple of times a week. Most aren't worth paying attention to...But every once in a while a good one will come along. Thanksgiving day just outside of Birmingham,Al I had a Mercedes 320SLK try me on the Highway. I was running about 80-85 and he pulled up and started messing with me. He jumped on it and I hit it and started pulling away from him. I backed out at 135 and he was a good ways back.

As for the Lightning pickup I usually attend the Ford SVT event in Texas almost every year. I take photo's for a good friend of mine who has a 98 Cobra. For the last couple of years the fastest thing on the road course has been a Lightning Pickup. This is besting all different years of Mustangs. They are also pulling away on the straights. The lightning is one hell of a pickup. Dont underestimate them or you might be sitting there mumbling to yourself about how you just got your a** kicked by a pickup.

Lightnings are great but Ford forgot about putting in knock sensors so upping boost is dangerous to the pistons. Even our cars have knock sensors so our pistons don't go kablooey.

This guy in a 65 289 or something Mustang convertible asked me if I wanted to race. I agreed convertible against convertible and he saw the back of my caulick.

Sometimes I have my window down when they try this and I'll beat them to the next stop light and roll my window up as they try to look through my limo tint.

Being an enthusiast, I hate to bag on any cars but you should have asked him at the next stop light:

"so how do you like that slk?"

Yup, not a week goes by where someone doesn't challenge you. Last night on the way home, a VW Jetta kept revving his engine while standing next to me at a light.

Ive found that wrx's are dangerous to mess around with. They are too easy to mod and parts are getting reletively cheap for them. I havent lost to one yet, but i remember a silver one that looked BONE STOCK was keeping up (1-1.5 car lengths behind) from 45-125. I was very surprised and very relieved that i came out on top (just barely).

the new '00 Up 1.8T vw's can be a threat in a drag race when modded.

I had one =). I never dyno'ed it, but it was supposed to make about 200-210whp and 240-250 lb-ft of torque.

Any factory turbo car, has a good chance at the Z. Except maybe a mazdaspeed protege hehe.
