How often do you pull up to a stop light in your Z and get challenged to race?

Twice. Once was vs a Mustang (posted over in the racing thread.) The other was a 300ZX (dunno if it was TT). However, the 300ZX sorta "cheated". He was behind me, riding my *** at the stoplight. When I slowly took off, he switched lanes and punched his car. Immediately as I downshifted, he turned onto another road.

I had my Z since November '04.

I get a challenge here in Tampa atleast once a day. Last night the same exact thing happened with me and a 300zx tt. We were on a single lane exit ramp and when i was getting ready to split into two lanes he dropped back 2 car lengths and punched it. I got challeneged by an rx-8 the night before that and a camaro z28 the night before that. So much for babying my car....haha

Question. On the 300ZXs, how can you tell it's a TT? I see no marks or emblems on it anywhere.

Some *** in a Grand Am GT or something came flying up beside me on the highway one night, beeping his horn and with his emergency flashers on, looked like a joke though so when he turned off i kept driving...it was odd though.

It will say Twin Turbo in the upper right hand corner of the rear kind of in the tail light. The TTs are getting rarer and rarer.

Hmm. I always thought they were stealthy. Good to know.

And yeah, since you said that... I haven't seen a real TT in a long time.

I never get challenged. Usually the other person will look over to check out my car but nothing more. I'm starting to think that seeing the Brembos makes people think there's more under the hood.

Although I did have a wicked GTI gun it to try to pass me (2 lanes merging)....I didn't let that happen.

Whats the deal with this:
a 2 lane road for example, some idiot has been hassling you or trying to race (whatever) and they need to make a turn off into an apartment or another road, they have to pass you before you complete your turn, its kinda the unsaid "owned" that if you dont completely finish the turn into wherever they or you are going, its an insult of sorts..everyone does it..I see it all the time people frantically trying to turn in as fast as possible, so that the chase-e cannot pass them in time..

You are so right about them making a turn before you can pass them, but that this person didn't succeed. The 3 day I owned my Z I was challenge by a mustang GT like 02 around that year. At that time the mustang GT got this jump on me like 3 car lengths because I was still spinning at the light. By the time I hooked up and went in to second gear his speed was on lock. No more pulling away as I finish the end of third gear I was coming in strong on the mustang and get this we were going down a 45mph road which is 3 lanes. I went into 4th and by the time I finish 4th gear shifting into 5th I was passing the mustang like 15 more mph than what he was doing. His passenger had this dumb founded look on his face. As soon as I passed him he turned into this turning lane but it was too late. I then did a U-turned and drove about 1 1/2 back the way I came. Here comes 3 cop cars and I was like damn!...you talking about close call!

I've only been challenged a few times. Once by a riced out prelude, once by a not riced out prelude, and once by an idiot grand am. Needless to say, I dusted them all like a dirty living room

I don't get challenged because everyone is scared of me. Not even my 350Z boys want to run against me!

Heheh, then you need to drive on Sepulvada more often! The part that runs through Bel Air and over the hill in to the valley.

I get people trying to run through the turns all the time. It's funny.

I'll just be cruising along at 40mph...never fails, some Civic, 3-Series, 911, S2, or Vette will go haul ***'in in the straights and then when we get to the twisties most back down.

But sometimes I get some real fun drivers on there. I won't do f'all if there's traffic though. So don't bother. Don't want to get anyone but myself killed.

It's alot of fun. Had a stock 3-Series just the other day try and take me down. I give him credit, held it together all the way up to 75mph in the turns, but my 87mph kind of dropped his joy.

Be safe!

i haven't had any challenges in 3 months. i guess it is a good thing. last challenge was a maxima but he just wanted to see how he fared vs. our cars.

to determine if a 300zx is tt. from behind there usually will be the twin turbo decal unless they removed it. from the front, there will be some horizontal slits on the lower corners of the stock bumper where the intercoolers are.

if he has a fat front mount, he most likely has some sort of turbo.

i could be wrong but that's what i remember.

Hmm. Man, they're quite old. I haven't seen a well-kept 300ZX in a long time. The TT probably fell off.

I think it's strange to read that some of you have only been challenged a couple of times since you've owned your car. I must get challenged (no joke) about 2-3 times a week. I don't usually drive too fast and I always get people coming up next to me and testing me. Most of the time I let it go, but sometimes it's just too tempting. I've had all sorts of cars challenge me from Porsche's to construction/work type trucks with ladders. It probably doesn't help that my license reads ZIPPIN Z.

Ever since I got this car, SUVs and minivans have been taking off the line at red lights. I have yet to be challenged by a worthy contender.

Isn't that the strangest thing? I get more mini-vans and suv's taking off at red lights than I do sports cars. I guess they're just testing their vehicles out. I don't even bother with those.

Right before I put my Z into storage, some punk kid in a Honda Civic challenged me at a red light.

we know how it ended...

I gave him something to aspire to.
