Default Door Lock Question.

Is there any way to make the passenger door unlock with the drivers door, without having to push the button twice? Sometimes I have to press the remote 3-4 times to get it open...or I forget and go through the frustration of trying to open a locked door. This is the my most dislliked function on the Z.

What could be easier than pushing the button twice?

Your alternatives are:

1) Open the door and press the unlock button.

2) Stick the key in the door and turn it twice (once unlocks the drivers door, the second turn unlocks the passenger).

Wow, talk about lazy. Have a viper alarm installed. You can unlock both doors with the press of one button

Jim,

One more thing. Pushing the button twice is not like double clicking a mouse. You don't need to do it that fast. The manual states that you have five seconds after the first push to do the second one. Make sure you do two nice slow pushes. I unlock and open my passenger door every morning and have never had a problem with the FOB not working right.

I'm sure there is a way to do it. On my last car (2000 Fbody) there were two wires off the BCM located behind the passenger kick panel that you jumped and it would make both doors open with one push. Just not sure which ones they are on a Z.

I got an alarm installed this weekend, and that is one of the features I like. Both doors unlock now on one press of the remote.

Here's a question....Why don't the doors of the Z lock automatically, once you (or you and your passenger) are inside and the car is in motion??

I think it's unsafe for the doors to remain unlocked after you climb in, turn the key and drive off...

Hell....Most $15-20K American Sedans have an autolock feature!

Because most Z drivers are smart enough to lock the doors?

C'mon dude...gimme a break...I DO lock the doors, but for SAFETY reasons and the fact that your passenger MIGHT forget to lock his/her door, it just seems to make sense.

Imagine THIS scenario (I'll preface this by saying I have NO children and none will ever ride in my Z):

You and your 10 year old son are riding in your Z. It's EARLY in the morning and haven't had coffee yet....so, you accidentally forget to lock the doors (Don't tell me you NEVER forget!)

You are driving 60 MPH down a highway and the kid plays with the door latch, accidentally opening the door....A car in the right lane smashes into your open passenger door and perhaps kills your kid in the resulting accident.

Not trying to be extreme here.....I just want you to fully realize some of the things that COULD happen!

I have to agree, even my parents Taurus locks once the car is in motion. Always wondered why ours didnt.

Because there may be situations where you have to bail out of your car at the last minute. i.e. you're being chased through town by 3 black cars with guys with uzis shooting at you. The draw bridge ahead is open and you're running out of road. Now wouldn't it just suck if you cant jump out of your car because your door was locked because of some autolock safety feature?

There is a module in the works that will take care of the auto locking and unlocking of the doors. It is being make by KPTechnologies, the group that already makes the remote-window up module as well as the VDC off module.

I'm curious. If the driver's door is open and you lock it, what happens if you close it? Does it stay locked or become unlocked? (some cars become unlocked so that you don't accidentily lock your keys inside your car...you have to lock the car by turning the key from the outside)

At the risk of being called a Luddite, it just seems unnecessary to me to have technology doing something that should be ingrained in drivers. I equate it with putting on your seat belt. I always buckle up, and I always lock the doors. It's not that far from having a car lock the doors for you to having the car shut off, apply the brakes or pull over to the shoulder when you try to exceed the posted speed. That's extreme, of course, I just don't like going down that road.

It's like requiring motorcyclists to wear helmets -- or maybe having a robotic arm that puts it on for you (wouldn't that be something). If you don't want to wear a helmet, fine. Deal with the consequences.

If an automaker wants to put the autolock feature on a car, bully for them. I just wouldn't get exercised because another one doesn't.

Simple, cause I don't like that feature and I told Nissan not to put it on the 350Z.
