Unhappy i wrecked my Z last night....

I was driving down the country highway and it rained heavily all the sudden. There's a sign in front stated there will be a mild right turn with posting speed 40mph. I didn't not let off gas and approach the turn at around 45mph and there's a sudden downhill drop out of the corner. The car started fishtail, and i tried not to panic but not slamming on any brakes nor steer the car. I just couldnt do much and my car skid off to the opposite lane, went on the dirt, the car bottom hit some bolders and then hit a small tree and finally came to a stop. My passenger side-airbags were deployed. Both me and my girlfriend walked away with just bruise and a bad back.
So my question is: I financed my car through my credit union with a huge chunk of money down (16.5k) because that's the only way they will give me a loan as I did not have much credit established. I still owe the bank 12k. I am not sure the car is totalled or not but the tow truck driver told me it is, judging two airbags popped out and the car has body damage through the whole car.
Please advice me what to do is for the best interest of myself and how much $$ I would get back from my insurance company. I got a hard time sleeping at night just to think of this.
Thanks yours help in advance.

Depending on your insurance the usually give retail value of the car based on something like blue book and if you have mods sometimes you can that also. You should get some money after paying the loan balance, the Z's have been holding their value pretty well according to Blue book, I refinanced my last year and after 2 years was worth around 26K according to my credit union down from 31K

Default I'm glad you and girl are ok..

Hey, your pretty much at the hands of your insurance company. They have their own body shop's they use to do these assessments(accident damage). But what I think you have is the ability to get multiple quotes on the damage, maybe from someone outside their network. Again, and I'm sure I speak for the masses here that I'm glad your ok...

Thx. But the car is actually not drivable so it's not really easy to get multiple quotes. Is there anyway i can do it?

Don't let the Insurance Co. fix the car. Do what ever you can to get it totaled. They did it to my mustang and the car was NEVER THE SAME. You'll be stuck with the car. And when I tried to trade it in the dealer told me they could tell it was in an accident. Bottom line, I didn't get $hit for the car. I'd rather take the loss and get another car. Sorry about you problem. You'll have to cut your loses somewhere.

Look up prices and see about how much it will cost to buy a Z with similar trim and miles and make sure you get about that much. I don't know if you can get them to add a few K more b/c of the upgrades you had on your car.

Last time I made a claim with my insurance company it was for a cracked windsheild and I asked if they could recommend a shop to go with and they took extra special care to let me know that I have the legal right to go with whatever shop I want and they can't make me go with there shop. I don't know if thats a state thing or not but I don't think an insurance company can make you go with their shop.

Thanks for hosting the pics .

Z Boy--I had my TCS on.

I also posted pics to another car forum and they all said the car will be far from totalled, assuming no undercar damage which i am worrying about.
Thanks guys for the advice.

Doesn't look totalled to me either. Assuming there is little to no underbody and suspension damage.

Glad you and your passenger are ok and hope that you find a good bodyshop to take care of your car.

Thx. Actually the passenger rear suspension is busted and kinda make the wheel tilt inwards.

No way that car is totaled. They can probably fix it good as new.

+1 on not being totaled. They can defn. make that car good as new. Doesn't appear to be that much suspension damage. Most of the damage appears to be cosmetic.
1. New rear hatch
2. New rear quarter panel for driver side
3. New passenger door panel
4. New passenger side skirt
5. New tail light
Can't see how the rims are

Thx. I checked the wheels and they actually didn't get too much scracthed...maybe just some fine hairline scratches. i am planning on having them refinished anyways, maybe i can bring them with the rental car since i don't have a second car.

FYI, there's a guy in the private classified wheels forum selling your OZ wheels, just the rears cheap.

Good luck in getting her back together.

I'm glad you and your girl aren't hurt man. It hurts to see your Z in that condition, it was clean as hell! Anyway, I highly doubt your car is totalled. Even if your suspension is totally f-ed up I still don't think it would be totalled. The good thing is that there wasn't any damage to the frame, so they should be able to repair it good as new. Good luck man, hopefully you'll be back on the road in that sexy Z in no time !

DO NOT let your ins co decide who will do the repairs...they will do it as cheapy as possible. find out what your rights are, or you won't have any. good luck. glad you weren't hurt, and sorry your baby was.
