Ok i was racing an evo while heaidng out to dinner, and when i shifted into 3rd gear, it acted just like it was in nuetral. I soon realized that my 3rd gear was gone and i thought of some stories other Z owners had said.
So now im faced with what i can do. I have an aftermarket JWT clutch and flywheel, but obviously thats not what caused the 3rd gear blow out. Should i take my car to nissan or rebuild the transmission myself?
My plan as of now was see what nissan can do with warranty and if they reject my warranty due to mods, then rebuild trans and cryo treat new gears so they wont strip teeth.
Ide like to hear some feedback from people who have had a similar problem and what they have done.

hey, don't drive the car another inch. you can triple A it to nissan and see if they'll take care of it under warranty and if they don't then we'll rebuild it. it looks like there are over 20 pages of people that have had their transmissions replaced so it's not just you....but yea....3rd gear has 33 teeth so....thats how many you stripped off. just a little fact...
if you want to be sure you can get warranty, take the mods out and swap in the factory flywheel.. You should be able to use aftermarket clutch, but then again, they may use the same excuse..
the thing is...if he gets a new trans from nissan, its gonna happen again either way. it needs to be beefed up to handle the stress, at least 1st,2nd, and 3rd since they get hit the hardest. a cryo treatment should do the job.
Just curious. How expensive is that cryo treatment?

wow, didnt know i was still subscribed to this thread...as for the question, i don't know where to get a cryo treatment since i havent even looked into it because no one has really needed it...well, wanted it. i've heard prices ranging from 300 to 700 though and that's for the entire transmission.
Dealer:"I see you have some aftermarket audio equipment...hmm~scratching chin~... I'm sorry but we can't fix your transmission because your Warranty is now voided with all these modifications to your sound system."
