Default Buttonwillow results updated!

Well, considering that I only got one session without a passenger and that on that session I got 2 clear laps at the most (Vipers and race tired S2K's coming up on me every lap), being the 19th fastest car was pretty damn good! I think there were about 120 cars there, but not all were timed. Check out the Z06's around me and the NSX and Boxter S that I stomped! Also notice that the only street tired cars that were faster than me were a Viper, and 2 Z06's and the Z06's were only barely faster!! I was faster than every street tired S2K!! Wait until I get some race tires and a proper suspension!!

Great Job!

What tire setup do you plan on going with?

Did you experience understeer as some reviewers have mentioned?

I do'nt know If/when I'll be pushing hard enough to experience it but Im curious could understeer be corrected on the Z w/ slightly wider tires upfront?

Cheers,
Ed

I posted in a past thread yesterday about the understeer. To put it bluntly it is simply merciless. You basically brutalize the outside front tire in any slow turn. The car is extremely confident through fast bends, but is also slowed by the understeer. This is great for the novice driver, but it's frustrating once you gain a bit of experience. That said, the Z is an amazing car for the beginner to learn the fundamentals of performance driving on a track. You would have to be real dumb to lose control of this car. I showed my friend on the skidpad that even if you stab the breaks at the limit, the back still won't come around with VDC off.

The Z has amazing potential for growth though. The power is already there and that is usually the hardest part. The car will be able to grow as the driver does. As far as tires, I haven't really decided yet. The fast way is the Hoosiers, but they wear out quickly. Kuhmo V700 is another way to go, or you could go with the quaisi race Comp T/A G Force KD. Lowering the car about 3/4-1" will help as will a stiffer suspension in general with a much stiffer rear anti roll bar. Relocating the battery to the rear of the car would help even the weight distribution. The Brembo's are perfect and fade free though.

Nice thing about Speedventures is that if we can start getting 5 or more Z's showing up to each event, we can have our own class. Hope to see you guys there!!

Great job. It sounds like you are getting the most out of your Track Z. Would different tire sizes other then what came on the car make a difference (larger front maybe)? What do people at the track think of the 350Z so far?

Great job, Raceboy! I also noticed that all the WRXs there ran slower than you.

How much improvement in times do you think you will gain with some good suspension mods?

I don't think the Z really needs more tire up front, but it could surely use more negative camber. More negative camber will surely help front grip. Look at your car from the side and you can see how much more negative camber has been dialed into the rear versus the fronts. Even if you changed nothing else but were able to get the car at least neutral, that would be good for about 1-2 seconds a lap at a place like Buttonwillow.

People at the track are usually really nice and inquisitive, the total opposite of trash talking forum trolls. Half your time at the track is speant cruising around checking out all the cool cars and talking to people as well as answering questions about your own car. Many S2K guys asked to sit in my Z and I had no problem letting them.

Now, if I didn't weigh 235lbs, that might make another second difference as well!! LOL
