Tints - how do you avoid tickets...
I have tinted my SS Z with 20% all the way- and the car looks really nice. The only thing is that the windows look pretty dark. In Illinois it is not legal to tint your front windows
I used to drive Celica with 30% all the way and never got stopped (knock on wood that I never will). However, the Z is far more noticable car and the tints look much darker.
I want to know if you use some good line if you get busted.
I know my cousin used to explain that he works in a really bad neighborhood and it is mainly for safety reasons - and the cops mostly let him go. (he had limo tint all the way on maxima).
Some other friends just collect tickets and then go to court and show pic of a car without tints... apologize and say they have aready removed them... and the tickets are waived.
*all the way = w/o the front one

Roll down your windows, and if you do get stopped use the "bad neighborhood" line. You may not want to lie about where you live though, so you can always say I work at/commute through a bad area.
My 20% actually passes the state's (Tennessee) 35% test. I had a police friend run the check for me. But it seems as though you are hosed if your state does not allow for any tint on the front.
easiest way not to get a ticket is to get a legal tint done
haha ok i will end my smart *** comment here.
try to find a dermotologist that would write you a "prescription" for having sensitive skin. i believe most states allow darker tints for medical purposes. and i end my plain-smart comment here.

I wussed out and got 38% (35% is legal here). I REALLY wish it was darker but every time I get a stare down from a cop, I'm glad I didn't.
If I were you, I'd leave the windows rolled down at least halfway. If the cop can see your face then they'll be less likely to pull you over.

I live in Illinois and have 20%...at least I think that's what it is. Whatever is one step above limo. In any case, there’s some ways around it in Illinois, but this state is tough on them. So here’s what, let’s say “a friend” of mine did. For starters you can get a note from the doc saying that you have sensitive eyes. Now that note only goes so far. Part of the reason being is that the state no longer accepts those notes unless they pre-date 1997 I think AND you must renew that note each year with the state to stay current. Basically to sum it up it means that today, no one can get tints on their windows even with a note unless you meet that other condition. That knocks most of us out of contention. The catch is that most cops and even judges do not know this. Sure if you try to send the note to the state then they’ll send you a rejection letter and tell you to take the tints off, but a cop or judge most likely does not know that. Most cops that I’ve spoken with think that you simply need to get a new note from the doc each year, which used to be true and is if you pre-date the ’97 act (I think it’s 97). So my g/f was ok…she still got hassled and given a hard time, but only once did the cop actually give a ticket saying “you need to renew this note every year” and it was expired by a few days.
Now here’s another way. This friend of mine has an address up in Wisconsin to which he registered his vehicle. Reason being that during the winters his car ain’t used much so he can claim storage at his Wisconsin residence. So he’s got WI plates on his car and tints are legal in WI. Now he might have darker tint than is legal in WI, but I doubt any IL cop is gonna give a ticket on WI’s behalf. It seems like it would make more work than need be. Basically this is the easiest way and my friend has never ever even been pulled over for tints or not having a front plate! Now you might be thinking that you don’t have an address in WI and can’t register. Well it just so happens that when you fill out the WI registration form, they do not ask for a WI address…only a mailing one. The only thing they want to know conclusively is which county the vehicle is kept in. For everything else, my friend lists his IL address and WI is juuuuuuust fine with that. Why are they ok with it? They know perfectly well that lot’s of IL folks have homes or vacation spots in WI and that they want all of their paperwork to come to their IL address, so that’s why they only ask which county the vehicle is kept in…for the address they perfectly accept IL addresses.
To top that off, my friend bought his car in IL, got a great deal, and had it registered in WI from day one. What does that mean? Means that he also paid WI taxes and plate renewal fees. Both of which are substantially less there than in IL. His insurance and bank do not care where the vehicle is registered and this is the second vehicle he has done this on. Hope that helps ya

Tough call with a 20% tent. So I guess I'd agree, roll your windows down. Thats the reason I went with 50%. With the 20% on the rears it looks pretty dark but when you get close to it, it almost looks factory.
I guess limo tint is 5%, then they have 10%, 15%... and so on. Everything above 40% is just barely noticable =>just gives you a tinted shade...
What does a lettel like this exactly states? My friend works at a doc. office so she could just get me a stamp
