Almost got car stolen
I dont need all these things in MY car. I carry LOVE in my car. I would just try to love the person attempting to carjack my car.
And then he would run off with his *** hurting like a *****. and feeling violated. Stupid bastard trying to jack my ride..... hopefully it would be a hot female though in that scenario

Although having a weapon probably wouldnt have helped your situation much due to unlocked doors. If your doors were locked you would probably have a few seconds to arm yourself though.

Although I feel bad for the friend who had all those horrible things happen to him, I have to ask, instead of taking the time to pull out a gun and shoot someone, why not just take off??
OK, maybe there is more detail to the story, like he was blocked in or whatever, but then you gotta make sure to include that in the tale.

as said above you can't go wrong with Glock....the 19 model is a compact 9mm which is good for carrying and the 26 model is an even smaller 9mm model for everyday carry. The only thing is for a handgun noob they don't have manual safeties so that may be a concern for you. A good inexpensive gun which I own is a Taurus PT-111. It's a compact polymer 9mm that is great for concealed carry. It's also got manual safety and a key driven locking mechanism for use if you have kids and you want to render the gun inoperable at times. Best of all it's under $300. I've had mine for a few years and never had a jam...great little gun.

Unless he means the one in the armrest.
I keep my glock 26 wrapped in a black cloth behind the drivers seat. I have a sunscreen thing covering it up. Keeps it concealed and easy to get too.

it's not just in my car....it's on me at all times. I have a carry and conceal permit and am a legal and responsible gun owner. I abide by all the laws so I know if I shot him for trying to steal my car I would get life in prison in NC but if he had a weapon that was capable of deadly force then I'm obliged to use deadly force. I'm not a paranoid guy or anything, I just NEVER want to be in a position where I'm like "damn, I wish I had a gun but I don't so now my wife and I are going to die". That situation will likely never happend and I'm happy about it but I'm ready just in case. My gun will probably only shoot paper targets forever and that's fine with me.
I'm reminded of something that happened a decade or so ago in Mobile, Alabama. This guy had his car stolen (not jacked). He went driving around to see if he could find the car and those responsible. He eventually saw the car and the perps at a local gas station, and, well, here's a news report:
The Legal Intelligencer
October 18, 1993, Monday
SECTION: NATIONAL NEWS; Pg. 5
LENGTH: 250 words
HEADLINE: Jury Finds Father, Son Innocent in Slaying
DATELINE: MOBILE, ALA.
BODY:
The evidence wasn't in dispute. A father and son killed one teen-ager and shot out another's eye with a salvo of gunfire when the found the youths sitting in the family's stolen car.
The father said he was tired of being a victim, but didn't mean to kill anybody.
Others call it vigilante justice, and warned that the jury's acquittals of both men of murder charges could incite others to lash out at suspected criminals.
"I can't help but feel this verdict will contribute further to the breakdown of the criminal justice system," prosecutor Michael Davis said Friday, a day after James Franklin Lambert Sr. and Jr. were cleared.
Lambert and his 21-year-old son were charged with murder and assault in the February shooting death of Lorenzo Goldsmith, 18, and the wounding of Timatrio Hicks. Hicks, 16, lost an eye when the Lamberts opened fire on a group of youths seated in the Lamberts' Toyota Cressida in a liquor store parking lot.
The father and son were out looking for the car, stolen the previous night. The elder Lambert said he aimed his shotgun at the youths because he thought they were armed. But when he cocked it, it discharged, and his mildly retarded son emptied his .38-caliber semi-automatic pistol into the car.
A jury found both Lamberts innocent Thursday. The son was found innocent by reason of severe mental defect or disorder.
The jury's foreman, Demetrius White, said it took two hours to decide that the slaying was accidental, not vigilante justice.

That father and son team were lucky...
One of the reasons that I got my permit was because I travel frequently to Mobile Alabama. Here in Mississippi you can have a loaded weapon in your car without a permit, it appears (from my limited research) to do so in Alabama you need a permit. They recognize my MS permit so it all works out.
There can be a fine line between defending yourself and going too far. Putting a round in someone's head then walking up and shooting them 14 times in the groin is probably not going to look too good later on.

I'm not a gun hater or anything, but if the only way for me to prevent some guy from jacking my car was to shoot him in the head, I would rather have him take the car. It would be a lot easier to deal with the insurance company than have to deal with the police and lawyers, not to mention having your name in the papers and being on the 6 o'clock news.

That would be great if you knew the guys intentions.
How do you know he wont pull a gun and shoot you, or stab you with something as you're exiting the car. Why leave someone that could ID them?
My personal belief is that I assume if someone is willing to break the law to take something of mine, that he is also willing to kill me. So if I'm in danger (not watching someone jack my car from 200 feet) I plan to operate under that assumption.
What's the old saying..."Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6".
well, personally I'm a big fan of vigilante justice but that's just me. That's why I like Texas laws because it's the only place where you can use deadly force to protect your home or property. Everywhere else if you catch someone stealing your car or your property you just have to sit and watch them do it while you call the cops....in Texas you can shoot them.....I'm a big fan of that. Hell, here in NC you can't even shoot someone who has broken into your house unless they are using deadly force on you first!!!! WTF?????
This is exactly why I wish I still lived in Florida. Its next to impossible to get a concealed weapons permit here in Cali. I usually carry some form of blunt object like a 1/2 drive ratchet etc that can be considered a spur of the moment defense weapon but on long trips I aint gonna lie. My matching Ruger P94 .40 cals come with.
Florida has decent conceiled carry laws. You need to undergo a background check and a firearms training class. The Sec. of State sends annual examples of justified use. They just changed the law for protecting your home. You don't have to let them escape just to live in fear that they will be back. If they are in your house, you can shoot them. Even in the back. As far as in the car...they asked the bad guys why they were jacking the people in rentals (tourists) and they said it was too dangerous to hit the locals because so many of them were carrying. The gov. changed the plates so you can't identify rentals anymore. When it gets too dangerous to be a bad guy, maybe they will get a job.

I don't blame you one bit especially given the amount of constitutional raping many states have done with regard to gun ownership and posession. I'm with you in that I'd rather deal with the consequences of illegally posessing a weapon than dealing with the consequences of being unarmed.
