Default Need Purchase Advise, 350Z with not clean title

My girlfriend and I are shopping around for a 350Z for her. We found a black on black track model loaded for 22995. It only has 17000 miles, it was a theft recovery. Recovered without any damage.

What does everything about buying a car without a perfect title. It still has Nissan warranty as they just did some trans work. It has no body damage and nothing was taken. I'm just a bit nervous about it.

I got approved throught capital one and it doesnt say anything about not being able to use the check on a car with a theft recovery title so I guess thats ok.

Also
Car has 23,000. Its located in Massachusettes. It has 17000 miles, leather interior, all the goodies except the 350Z navigation. It is a track edition. That seems to be a really good price for it since the NADA is over 30...

Also, the dealer said MA doesnt have temp tags and that I would have to bring a liscene plate with me to drive the car home. Anyone in MA, is that true, MA doesnt issue temp plates?

At least have the car inspected by a mechanic you trust.

Why even bother? For just a little more (or if you get a cheaper model), you can get a used Z with a clean title. You may save money now, but if/when it comes time to sell the car, you're gonna lose money.

YA, thats what i was going to say too.
You can probably get a leftover 04 enth for 2k more and 3% (probably better than cap one) and it would be new.

I personally would never buy it. Not worth the potential problems plus the lowered resale value when you go to sell it down the line.

i was going to ask that same question ... i didn't think you could get leather in a Track (unless aftermarket?)

$24K isn't all that great of a price. Even with a clean title, if you were to be the one trading that car in, you'd be offered around $23K ... maybe $23.5K. So their price is still over wholesale for a clean titled car. The bad title is bad news. Will really kill resale. Maybe, just maybe, if I really loved it and it was truly perfect, I might break open the piggy bank for like $21K.

The price he originally said was 23k, which is actually a pretty decent price for a track model with under 20k miles on it. Furthermore, he said that it recently had "some tranny work" which means that it has a new tranny in it. We all know that Nissan doesnt fix trannys, they replace them. So, what you have is a loaded track model, WITH brembos and a new tranny for 23k. Assuming the car was recovered without damage, tell me again why this isnt a good deal.

I'm curious why a car would get a marked title for having been stolen. Was it not returned to the original owner? What about the car being stolen makes the title mark-worthy if it wasn't damaged. If I was the owner of a recovered theft, I would be seriously pissed about this being done to the resale of my car. Am I missing something?

I got a few more pics of it from the dealer...

Can someone tell me what wing is on the car, I dont really like it. Also, is it normal for the driver seat to have a thing in the middle of your legs and passenger to not?

That doesn't look like a dealer's parking lot to me!

And unless you plan on keeping the Z forever, I wouldn't get one with a "theft" non-clean title.

I think even if you plan on keeping the car for the 5 years you're going to finance it, it's not a bad deal. Here's why. Let's say you're going to buy the car for 5K less than market value because of the dirty title. 5 years later, even if the car was worth 5K less than the market value, you've saved on financing interest. Also, the chances are the decrease in value due to title status is not a fixed number, but rather a percentage of the vehicles value. So you'll save 5K buying it (because 5K is X percent of the vehicles value), but you'll sell it for, say 2K less than market because that is the same percentage of the cars now decreased value. You saved yourself 3K plus interest savings, and you can probably find someone who won't care about the title as much, as long as you keep the car clean.

I'd go for it.

As for the leather seats, they are clearly aftermarket, just like the Nismo wing.

Is it normal for the seats to not be the same in between where your legs are? there is a hump looking insert in the drivers seat that isnt in the passengers seat.

It's just part of the 'sport design' of the seat. The intent is to better hold your body in place under cornering. The seats aren't broken or anything.

I need some title assistance. My loan clearly states I cannot finance a car with a salvage title. Does a car that was stolen but recovered with any damage recieve a salvage title?

I'd say go for it man, as long as you check the car out thoroughly and you plan on keeping the car for a while. You'll lose some value because of the dirty title though, so take that into consideration.

No. Salvage title would be the car was totalled and purchased afterwards.
