I agree. yes my dad did buy my Z, but I had friends in high school that had crazzzy cars. some kid got am M3 when he turned 16! some kid had an X5 when he was 15. doesn't matter.
I wanted an SLK, and yes my dad could have afforded it, but he got me a celica because he didn't want to spoil me.

Man, my dad's more like Red Foreman... I was given 'permission' to fix up my mom's old '73 nova (it wasn't running). I was also informed that I was to pay for my own insurance. But, I wasn't allowed to have a job during the school year. And then I got yelled at for not maintaining it out of my own pocket.

On the upside, I can change a starter with nothing more than a pair of vicegrips, do my own basic maintanance, and diagnose most automotive problems by sound or smell. I still can't adjust carburetors and make it better, though.

In 1976 when I was 16 lots of kids had their mom and dads buy them Cameos, Trans Ams, and Corvettes. I was given permission to get a part time job - 20 hours a week - as long as my grades didn't slip. I bought a used car, learned how to repair it myself, and raced the kids with their slow Cameos, Trans Ams, and 'vettes for money for gas. My parents were kind enough to let me park it in the garage during the Chicago winters while I was working on it. In the summer they let me park the car in their driveway.

Too many people have an obsession with crap believing that life is about gathering stuff together ... when it's really about people and family. I believe that the disbelieve in the true meaning life is taught young and re-inforced often by well meaning but misguided parents.

You have just been challenged! Don't blow it!
Nothing better than proving to dad that you can do it.
Besides, you'll love the Z!
