Default Fixes to common problems...

1. 3rd gear grind
- Field rep and Nissan engineering consulted by tech. Determined best route to pull tranny and replace with new one. (mmm, fresh, synthetic tranny fluid)

2. Passenger window does not re-seat after closing door
- New window motor ordered.

3. Bose sucks
- We all know the fix here, amp ordered.

4. Brake dust accumulates faster than snow in Banff in January
- Ferodo DS2500 racing brakes installed. Go fast, stop faster, keep wheels cleaner. Who needs wheel wax?

I didn't tackle any of the rattles this time, I'll post fixes for those when they're addressed.

Good days and nights to all,
Josh

Default Feel slightly lucky Coach

Coach, you do have your share of problems with your 350Z, but feel lucky that your does not pull right on flat driving surfaces, a problem a few of us have. Every problem is serious to the owner, especially if a quick fix is not in order.

I have faith that Nissan will step up to the plate and address all issues, but it may be later than sooner. Keep us posted on the fixes.

I kinda like the stock brake bads....= the pads are taking the brunt of the wear (obviously). I would prefer this over the harder pads that dont dust and make the rotor do all the work. Im telling you, I dont want to ever buy new rotors for this dang car cuz they are going to be EXPENSIVE!

The 3rd gear grinding problem is common...I have a touring 6MT with 550 miles on it...problem started with me after about 400 miles on the car and only happens if the car is not warmed up...Nissan tech has same problem with his 350, spoke with him yesterday...he is waiting for the fix, and in the mentime said to just enjoy the car...QUESTION...will replacing the tranny fluid with synthetic cure this, or were you just kinda joking as other posters have suggested this as a fix...

The synthetic tranny fluid shouldn't cure the grinding problem, I was just saying that, since I'm having a new tranny put in, I might as well put some high performance synthetic in. Service department wont do it, though, as they are required to put the Nissan tranny fluid in for warranty reasons.

Hopefully, you've reported your 3rd gear grind to the dealership, had the tech identify it and call it in to Nissan. The field rep passed along that there are 3 Z's with the grind across the country right now, I told him there are many more unreported...let the mfg know the problems we have and they'll step up to fix them.

Re: alignment problems, the Xterra did the same thing when it first came out -- almost every one needed an alignment as soon as it came off the truck. It's annoying, but they'll figure out the fix soon!

UPDATE:

Got a call from the dealership today, my tranny is in, but they will not replace it until Nissan tech reps are able to fly out here and drive the car with me. Looks like December 5th or 6th they'll fly in.

Raceboy will love this whine, but what if I can't duplicate the 3rd gear grind with them in the car? Will they refuse to replace the tranny? It's intermittent, but seems to happen most on the first few shifts of the day...I'll leave the car at the shop overnight and make the rep drive the first drive of the day to maximize the chance of grinding.

CoachZ....That's just what I have...a whine not a grind...if I baby the first few shifts in the morning when I shift into 3rd gear, the whine does not occur...engine seems needed to be warmed up...not a fix, but we'll see what happens...got 800 miles on the Z...live in Coral Springs...keep us posted on what happens....curious to know if it's a faulty tranny or whatever...let us know how it get resolved and what the tech people say when they drive your Z....my Z is #5842 produced...what about yours?

This grinding problem happens to me when I'm driving spirited. It grinds and it always happens at the complete wrong time (doin' a shake and bake dash with a Boxster). It's horrible when you gears grind.

I don't know if this constitutes a fix or not, however, what is the best route to get someone on the problem? Calling Nissan or just going to the dealer?

The best route is to get it in to the dealer if you have the grind and make sure that the tech can duplicate the problem. He can then call Nissan engineering, they refer it to the field rep or make a decision on what to do with the tranny.

Since I'm one of the first few to report it (and it seems to be a growing common problem), they'll prolly pull the old tranny to stufy it and figure out what they can do to fix future ones without replacing them.

I'm #690, developed the grind about 1200 miles, have 3600 now. Happens most often when cold, lower RPMs, or the occasional "spirited" drive...I will certainly keep everyone posted and will pass along any info the engineers give me.

Sorry to be stupid, but can someone tell me about this grinding problem? When I drive my car, sometimes I feel a little resistance when going into 2nd or 3rd, but there is no audible noise. I have my clutch fully engaged too. Is this the same thing?
