are the sti faster because they have better traction of the line or are the plain faster .cause some guy clamis he did a 13.1 1/4 mile with slicks on . i know 13.1 is faster then sti 1/4 mile i think 13/5 so does that meen we have faster cars or could u put slicks on the sti and get better time .i dont see how that would help cause they got he awd

there is nothing wrong with asking even if it is the same question, which isnt. If you dont want to read a post about the same just dont open it, or dont replay if you dont want to. Anyways I would also like to know, info on car is never enough for me.

Yes, AWD will give the Sti or Evo a distinct advantage, especially at launch. They don't have much of an issue with traction because of this and adding slicks I'm sure you could see quarter-mile times in the low 13's.

Of course, if you threw slick's on the Z, I'm sure you could see times in the mid 13's, seeing as people have run 13.7's and 13.8's on street tires.

AWD provides an advantage when launching the car. The race would be very close of you take away the AWD traction advantage, since the STI has 300 hp/300 lb-ft, which are only slightly above the Z's ratings.

the sti will have you by a half second on street tires in the quarter....slicks would benefit both, i give a slight edge to the sti this is based on both cars stock with 6M's

Yes, they are quicker from the start because they have better traction. But lets not forget all the broken trannies from the high rpm launches the dealers dont pay for.

like everyone said... traction.

if you put the STi on bicycle tyres, of course the Z would win due to better traction as the STi would be incapable of putting its power effectively to the ground. power output is only as good as what you're able to transfer into forward motion. power output in the form of melted rubber is not effective for anything but to melt rubber.

with an STi on stock tyres and the Z in drag shoes, it would be a damn close race.

put them both in drag shoes, and you're right back to square one.

Hm... The broken tranny thing has more to do with the WRX 5spd. I haven't seen one complaint about a broken STi 6 speed tranny, without maybe extreme negligience.

By the way, stock STi's have hit high 12's in the quarter mile- also people have been in the 14's due to not knowing how to launch.

But yes, mainly it is the awd that gives the STi the advantage over the Z. This is an even bigger factor on the street with street tires.

With slicks on the z you greatly reduce that advantage.

From a roll; stock for stock- I still think the STi will take the z...

Your prolly right, abuse is abuse. Did they improve the trannies?

I ran A white STi from a roll, like a 2-5 mph punch and I actually pulled him (a car maybe?). We pulled over and talked he was really impressed, cool guy. I have only two mods, intake and test pipes.

I think stock for stock they are pretty much even, just driver skill.

I come from experience. I used to have an EVO. an AWD car will smoke us off the line, period. That's the advantage of AWD. now the turbos on botht he sti and the evo are not really designed for top end, since they are reletively small. our car should have a better top end. But everything is reletive, and dependant on the driver. Both can be quicker than the other, it just all depends.
so who knows...........
go out and find out, drive em both, see which one is faster for you
