Oil change schedule
I know probably an old question and I read my manual but, I just bought an ultra yellow 35th and it's f@#$ awesome. Anyways, I read that you should change your oil @ 500, 1000, 4000, 7000 with dino then switch to syn @ 10000 and change @ every 3000 with syn after that. Is that about right? Does using syn to early really not good for your engine? And what type of dino and syn should I use? I just want to do the right thing.
I follow the manufactures recommendation for oil type but I go with brand names. I always change the oil earlier than recommended. My truck said to change at 7500 mi. I change every 6000 mi. It's 15 years old has 175000 mi. does not burn oil starts every time and the milage hasn't diminished. I did the same with my Cougar (5000 instaed of 6500)and it has 134000 and runs great.
Miantanence is the key! Buy and use good products often, you can't fail.

That seems a bit silly. The whole point of synthetic is to go longer between changes. I'm probably getting one at 100 miles, then 1500 miles, and switching to synthetic after 1500. With synthetic in and watching the levels, I should be able to get about 5000 per change easy.
Without question synthetic oil is superior to regular oil, especially at engine start. The major negative is its rather high cost which is magnified if one believes in changes at 3750 mile intervals. For that reason, I have used Castrol blended (50% regular and 50% synthetic) since the odometer hit 10K. The blend (also made by Pennzoil and several other companies) is about $2.00 more per quart making it inexpensive enough for shorter interval changes. These blends are available at NAPA and other auto stores nationwide.
^Agreed. You can actually, for like $20, send in a sample of your oil and have it tested to see how clean/dirty it really is. I know people that do this and regularly change their oil at 7.5k to 10k mile intervals.
